Super Smash Bros. began as a simple fighting game but has evolved into Nintendo’s biggest tribute to its gaming legacy, reaching its peak with *Super Smash Bros. Ultimate*. Now boasting over 80 playable characters, the game is a huge, lively battle bringing together heroes and villains from different eras and franchises. While Nintendo seems to have included almost every character imaginable – even those from other companies – some popular choices are still missing, much to fans’ disappointment. When Nintendo creates the next major Super Smash Bros. game for the next console, they should consider an even wider range of characters.
With so many characters already in *Super Smash Bros. Ultimate*, it seems like the game is already packed. However, Nintendo has missed some popular and deserving characters who would be great additions. The five characters listed below aren’t just what fans are asking for – they’d also fit perfectly into the game’s battles.
5) Chibi-Robo
Chibi-Robo is a delightful and somewhat obscure Nintendo series that originally appeared in *Chibi-Robo!* on the GameCube. The game uniquely combines the task of cleaning a house with an adventurous story, which might seem unusual for a fighting game like Smash Bros. While the character is tiny, Nintendo proved they could make a small character work with Captain Olimar from the *Pikmin* series. After many fun adventures, it’s time for this cute robot to join the Smash Bros. roster.
Chibi-Robo would be a nimble fighter who uses both grappling with his plug and deploying gadgets from toys. The plug could attack from a distance, grab opponents, and also help him recover when launched. A unique strategy would be dropping toys to force opponents to defend, creating openings for grabs. His neutral special move could be charged to boost his attack power or build a resource, similar to how Inkling uses ink. Chibi-Robo is a much-requested character and could offer a really engaging and different way to play.
4) Dixie Kong
Dixie Kong is a long-awaited addition to the Super Smash Bros. lineup. First appearing in *Donkey Kong Country 2*, she’s been a regular character in Donkey Kong games ever since, though in Smash Bros. she’s only appeared as a collectible item. While some think she might play like Diddy Kong, Nintendo could really make her unique, particularly by utilizing her famous, helicopter-like ponytail.
This character would be fast and agile, focusing on aerial combat and impressive acrobatics. Her long ponytail wouldn’t just be for show – it would be a key part of how she moves around the stage, potentially offering a better recovery option than Donkey Kong’s. She could also use it to increase the range of her attacks. Gameplay would center around quickly stringing attacks together, and she’d be very effective at preventing opponents from returning to the stage. A special weapon, a Bubblegum Popgun, would let her attack from a distance, possibly even slowing enemies down with sticky bubblegum. This combination of speed and unique abilities would make her a strong, aggressive character, similar to Diddy Kong but distinct enough to earn her place in the next Super Smash Bros. game.
3) Bandana Waddle Dee
Bandana Waddle Dee is a great example of a character who’s become incredibly popular. He started as a minor background character, simply one of King Dedede’s helpers. But when he got a blue bandana and a spear, he became a unique character in his own right. He’s since appeared in many Kirby games, and even played a major role as a playable partner in *Kirby and the Forgotten Land*. Now, fans are hoping to see him join the roster of the next *Super Smash Bros.* game, a request they’ve been making for years.
Bandana Waddle Dee could be a fun addition to the game. Because he’s small and fights with a spear, he’d likely be a character who excels at keeping opponents at a distance with quick attacks. Nintendo could design him to reward careful positioning and movement, while also letting him quickly move in and out of fighting range. His recovery – getting back to the stage – could be based on his signature helicopter spin with the spear. Beyond that, there’s a lot of room for creativity in designing his other moves. Given his size, he’d probably be a lightweight character, meaning he’d need to avoid prolonged battles.
2) Isaac
Fans have been eagerly requesting Isaac for the *Super Smash Bros.* series for a long time. As the main character from Nintendo’s *Golden Sun*, many wonder why he hasn’t been added, as he’d be a great fit. He uses elemental magic and wields a distinctive sword, making a moveset relatively straightforward to create, and Nintendo often includes sword-wielding characters. While he’s appeared as a supporting character, fans feel he deserves a full playable role.
As a huge fan, I’ve always thought Isaac would be amazing as a fighter! He’s got the sword skills for close combat, but then all his magic opens up so many possibilities for ranged attacks. I imagine he’d play a bit like the Hero from *Dragon Quest*, but thankfully without all the random chance. Nintendo could pick any of his spells to turn into special moves, though I think a set list would be the way to go. Honestly, no matter what they do, getting Isaac in the game would be a dream come true, and I know fans would go wild!
1) Waluigi
Waluigi is consistently the most requested character to be added to the Super Smash Bros. series. People love him – whether it’s as a joke or because they genuinely enjoy his character – and he’d be a great fit, completing the main group of Mario villains. His exaggerated personality would be a fantastic addition to the game, offering a similar level of chaotic energy as Wario. While he could be a frustrating opponent, he likely wouldn’t be one of the game’s most annoying characters. Considering Waluigi has appeared in many spin-off games before, adding him to the next Super Smash Bros. installment seems like a natural step.
Considering how many spin-off games he’s appeared in, this character has a lot of potential. A special attack similar to Peach and Daisy’s in Super Smash Bros., but using sports equipment, would fit well. His signature, somewhat clumsy dancing could also be incorporated into his moveset. His long arms and legs could give him surprisingly long reach, making him a difficult opponent to predict. Plus, a pinball-themed move is a must – maybe a projectile that bounces off enemies and can be redirected for an additional attack.
