5 of the Top 6 Best 2026 Games Aren’t Available on Xbox Series X

So far in 2026, five of the year’s six highest-rated games aren’t available on Xbox Series X, which is a significant issue for the console. This trend of games skipping Xbox is happening more and more each year. What’s particularly concerning is that these missing games aren’t first-party titles from PlayStation or Nintendo—though some may have been secured through exclusive deals.

Currently, the top five games of 2026—excluding the fifth-ranked title—aren’t playable on Xbox Series X. This means Xbox fans are having a particularly slow start to the year.

Mewgenics

Mewgenics is a strategy RPG created by Edward McMillen, the mind behind The Binding of Isaac, and Tyler Glaiel. Currently, it’s the top-rated game of 2026 on Metacritic, boasting a score of 89, and is only available on PC.

Perfect Tides: Station to Station

With a score of 86 on Metacritic and a perfect user rating on Steam, Perfect Tides: Station to Station was one of the most popular games of 2026. You can experience this new adventure game from Three Bees on either Nintendo Switch or PC.

Nioh 3

Nioh 3 received an 86 on Metacritic, making it the third-highest rated game in the series. Like previous titles, this action RPG is only available on PC and PlayStation 5, developed by Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo.

Cairn

The Game Bakers, known for creating Furi and Haven, has released Cairn, a challenging survival climbing game. Currently available on PC and PlayStation 5, it’s receiving rave reviews and holds an impressive 85 score on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated games of 2026.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon

I’m really excited about The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon! It just got an 84 on Metacritic, which is amazing – that puts it as one of the top-rated games of 2026! It’s available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and PC, but unfortunately, Xbox players are missing out for now. It’s a turn-based RPG, and I can’t wait to jump in!

Currently, only one of the six top-rated games of 2026 is available on consoles: BlazBlue Entropy Effect X, from 91Act, which has a score of 84 on Metacritic. This means a small fraction of the best games are on consoles, and we expect even more major titles to bypass the platform this year.
