5 Ongoing Shonen Jump Series That Deserve a Lot More Attention

I’ve been a huge fan of Weekly Shonen Jump for years, and it’s amazing to think it first hit newsstands way back in 1968! It’s slowly become the most popular manga magazine out there, and over the decades, it’s published so many incredible series. We’re talking absolute classics like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach – titles that still have millions of fans worldwide! Lately, I’ve noticed things are changing a bit, with newer series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer having shorter runs and really fast-paced plots. But honestly, these new stories are exploding in popularity, and it just proves how important Weekly Shonen Jump is to the entire anime and manga world.

Many of the stories published in the magazine are well-written, original, and feature compelling characters, but they often fly under the radar. Even when these hidden gems gain some popularity, they don’t quite reach the level of mainstream hits – despite having everything fans look for in a great series. If you’re interested in discovering what the magazine offers beyond the most well-known shows, this list is perfect for you.

5) Someone Hertz

The magazine series, Someone Hertz, is relatively new and still building a readership. It centers around Mimei Fukumori, a popular student council president, and his classmate, Kurage Mizuo, who both enjoy listening to the same late-night comedy radio program.

While he’s more reserved, she’s famous for her wit, and her funny messages are frequently featured on the show. Mimei wants to be as amusing as she is, but finds it surprisingly difficult. As he tries to get his own comments read on air, his competitive yet friendly feelings for Mizuo begin to develop into something deeper.

4) Shinobi Undercover

Shinobi Undercover is a funny and exciting manga that combines ninja action with the story of a clumsy hero trying to live a normal life. It takes place in present-day Japan and follows a secret team of highly trained operatives—the Ninja Public Safety Force—who use traditional ninja skills to protect the country from threats.

Yadoka is a highly skilled young ninja who struggles with social interaction. His latest assignment forces him to step outside his comfort zone: he must go undercover as a high school student and act as a bodyguard for Aoi Mukai, the only heir to a large family fortune.

3) Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi

Despite its title, Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi is a lighthearted and funny manga about a world plagued by demons. The story centers on Kiyoshi Harai, a 16-year-old exorcism expert who graduated from the Exorcist Academy at a remarkably young age. However, he’s secretly hiding a big secret behind his incredible abilities.

It absolutely breaks my heart to think about what happened to him – losing his parents to a demon is just devastating. It left him deeply afraid of facing those creatures, understandably. But even though that terrible day still haunts him, he’s incredibly brave! He pushes through his fear and uses his abilities to protect people by exorcising demons. It’s inspiring, honestly.

2) RuriDragon

The manga frequently pauses production because of the author’s health, but fans agree the story is compelling enough to be worth waiting for. It centers around Ruri Aoki, a typical high school student, who is surprised to discover she’s growing horns. Her mother reveals that her father is a dragon, but even with this shocking news, Ruri still needs to get ready and head to school on time.

Despite wanting to live a normal life, she’s struggling with all the attention she’s receiving at school after her transformation. As the story unfolds, she begins to understand who she truly is and discovers hidden abilities, even while trying to navigate the resulting chaos.

1) Witch Watch

If you’re looking for a fantasy series with witches, ogres, vampires, werewolves, and more, Witch Watch delivers! The story follows Morihito Otogi, a high school student secretly hiding his ogre identity. He discovers that Nico Wakatsuki, a childhood friend and powerful young witch, has returned after years of training in a mystical land.

Morihito is surprised to discover his parents have planned for him to live with another person, and that he’s expected to act as their magical companion. Though hesitant at first, he agrees when he finds out this person, Nico, is in serious danger. As the story unfolds, Morihito and Nico encounter other extraordinary beings who join their household, all while they work to protect Nico from various threats.
