The new Pokémon game, Pokémon Winds & Waves, marks the start of the series’ 10th generation and promises both brand new Pokémon and the return of familiar favorites. While we don’t yet know which Pokémon will appear in this new region, it’s likely many of the over 1,000 Pokémon created so far will make an appearance. The developers also have a great opportunity to expand existing Pokémon lines with new evolutions, giving some less popular creatures a chance to become more powerful and prominent.
The upcoming Pokémon games in Generation 10 aren’t the first to add evolutions to older Pokémon. Generation 4 famously did this, giving popular Pokémon like Magmortar, Electivire, Magnezone, and Gliscor brand new evolutions. Giving older Pokémon new ways to evolve is a great way to revitalize them, giving them updated designs and new strategies that make them more appealing to players.
5. Carnivine

It’s strange that the Venus Flytrap-inspired design of the Pokémon Carnivine hasn’t been developed further, especially after so many years. First appearing in the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games, it became a memorable, funny character in the anime thanks to its use by Team Rocket’s James. Despite this popularity, Carnivine has never received an evolution, and it’s largely been overlooked by players.
Carnivine could become a really powerful Pokémon if it evolved, possibly learning from how Victreebell gained a new form in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. When abilities are in play, Carnivine’s Levitate ability is great because it protects it from Ground-type attacks – which is ironic, considering it’s already strong against them! Since it already has good Attack and Special Attack stats, an evolution could make Carnivine even stronger and create a truly unique and memorable Pokémon in the next generation of games.
4. Druddigon

Druddigon is often overlooked when people talk about Dragon-type Pokémon from the fifth generation of games, Pokémon Black and White. With Pokémon like Hydreigon and Haxorus having complete three-stage evolutions, Druddigon can get lost in the mix. Interestingly, Druddigon played a significant role in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, appearing on the teams of several Gym Leaders and even the Champion, Iris. Because of this strong showing, it’s surprising Druddigon hasn’t received a new evolution to make it even more powerful.
Adding a pre-evolution to Druddigon in the Winds and Waves game could explain how it becomes more powerful. This early form could be a tough, Dragon-type Pokémon with abilities like Rough Skin or Sheer Force, giving it better defenses than many other Dragons. Considering Druddigon’s habit of basking in the sun or digging through caves, its evolution could gain a Rock or Fire type, resulting in a rare and interesting Dragon-type combination.
3. Tauros

Tauros is an original Pokémon from the first generation, based on the wild bulls of the Great Plains. It’s still a strong Normal-type Pokémon today. Though it recently gained new forms in the Paldea region, Tauros has never evolved. You can find Tauros in almost every main Pokémon game, and its abilities – Intimidate, Anger Point, and Sheer Force – consistently make it a valuable addition to any team.
Tauros is a Pokémon that nearly received an evolution with the introduction of Bouffalant in Generation 5, but Bouffalant ended up being a standalone Pokémon without any evolutions of its own. Because Tauros has been around for a long time and is well-known, it’s a strong contender to finally get a new form in Generation 10. With the recent release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Switch 2 – bringing back the Safari Zone and Tauros in the Kanto region – its already impressive Attack and Speed stats are gaining renewed attention. This could make any new evolution even more appealing to fans in the upcoming Winds and Waves games.
2. Luvdisc

Luvdisc isn’t a hidden treasure among Pokémon; it’s generally considered a weak Pokémon from the third generation that keeps reappearing in different games. While it’s fairly fast, it’s otherwise not very strong and often feels like a Water-type Pokémon that should evolve. However, Luvdisc has never actually gained an evolution, leaving it with an interesting design but little practical use in battles.
This Pokémon would really stand out with an evolution, particularly in games like Pokémon Winds and Waves which heavily feature water environments. Considering the first look at the new starters in Generation 10, Luvdisc could easily be one of the returning Water-type Pokémon. While we’ve seen hints of other ocean-dwelling Pokémon, players would be much more excited to catch Luvdisc if it had the potential to become more powerful.
1. Chatot

I’ve always thought Chatot was such a cool Pokémon! It’s from the Generation 4 games and, while it’s a Normal/Flying type like a lot of bird Pokémon, it really stands out with its head shaped like a musical note. Everything about Chatot is about sound and music – it can even use moves that mess with opponents using sound! It’s got pretty good Special Attack and Speed, but honestly, it feels like Game Freak hasn’t really given it a chance to shine. I’d love to see it get some more attention!
Chatot was a key character in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky games, offering guidance and a calm presence to the player. Because it’s well-known from those games and has a naturally cheerful personality, Chatot has a lot of potential for new evolutions. A new form could turn it into a conductor, an opera singer, or simply give it more interesting musical features, making it an even more appealing Pokémon for players.
Generally, Pokémon that haven’t evolved at all are better candidates for new evolutions than those that already have one or two. While it’s up to opinion which Pokémon ‘deserve’ a new form in future games, any new evolutions added in Generation 10 will likely be a welcome surprise for fans.
