5 Racoon City Callbacks We Want in Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom has finally confirmed what everyone already knew: Leon S. Kennedy will return in the new Resident Evil: Requiem game. It’s now clear this game will heavily reference past titles in the series. Players will control both Leon and Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of a character from Resident Evil: Outbreak, as they revisit Raccoon City to see the aftermath of the events from Resident Evil 3. Given how much the game seems to be drawing from the series’ history, we can expect plenty of familiar elements and references.

Here are five nods to the past we’d love to see in Resident Evil: Requiem.

5) Is The Clock Tower Still Standing?

According to leaks about the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem, Capcom is aware players were disappointed with the Resident Evil 3 Remake. Many felt the remake was too short and lacked content, more like an add-on than a complete game. Returning to the setting of Raccoon City in a new game would give Capcom a chance to fix those problems and deliver a more substantial experience.

The Clock Tower area was significantly reduced in the Resident Evil 3 remake, appearing mostly during the Nemesis boss fight. While the city is shown heavily damaged, many buildings remain. It would be a nice nod to fans if Leon or Jill returned to the Clock Tower to see if it survived the destruction.

4) What’s Going On With The Burtons?

Barry Burton’s story extends beyond Raccoon City, but that’s where it started. Unfortunately, he was significantly cut from the Resident Evil 3 Remake. It also feels unlikely to naturally include him and his family, as he didn’t have much established connection with Leon.

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about Barry Burton. The last we knew, he’d adopted a girl named Natalia, and she strangely seemed to share the personality of Alex Wesker. It’s odd that Capcom never really addressed that significant detail – it feels like a loose end after all this time.

This event originally occurred in Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which many players may have missed. However, with Leon returning to the original setting, it would feel incomplete if Wesker wasn’t somehow involved. Since bringing Albert Wesker back to life seems unlikely, perhaps bringing his son, Bary, into the story could be a good solution.

3) Let’s Get The Outbreak Gang Back Together

Alyssa Ashcroft, known from Outbreak, has a significant part in Requiem as the mother of the main character, Grace. But what about the other actors from the original series? While we don’t need everyone to return, if Requiem is meant to be a reunion, wouldn’t it be great to see some of Grace’s former teammates from Outbreak make an appearance?

Since Leon is already handling things, we likely don’t need Kevin, the police officer. However, it would be great to see characters like Mark, Yoko, or George make an appearance. I’d also be happy to revisit some of the locations from Outbreak, maybe even Racoon University, for one last time.

2) We Need to See The Spencer Mansion Ruins

If the series revisits Raccoon City, it would be strange not to include the Spencer Mansion. Even though Leon and Grace don’t have personal ties to it, the mansion is a hugely recognizable and important location in the series, and leaving it out would be a surprising decision.

We’ll likely be revisiting the Police Station too. Leon is very familiar with it, and it’s become almost as iconic as the mansion, especially after the popularity of Resident Evil 2 Remake. If this new installment, Requiem, takes us back to Raccoon City, Capcom will probably show us all the classic, ruined locations we remember.

1) The Women in Leon’s Life

Okay, so I wasn’t trying to make a list of every female character who needs to reappear, I figured I’d talk about them as a group. Seeing Hunnigan back as Leon’s handler in the Requiem trailer is awesome – a really good start! But honestly, I’m hoping we get some news about what the other women of Resident Evil are doing too. I’m really curious to see what their stories are!

Several characters – Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, Sherry Birkin, and Ashley Graham – are due for a return in future games. Ada Wong feels like the most likely candidate, but it would be odd to revisit Raccoon City without also including Claire and Sherry. While Ashley isn’t as central, it would be surprising not to see her mentioned with the recent release of the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

It’s hard to ignore the fact that Jill Valentine, a hugely important character in the Resident Evil series, hasn’t been a major focus for about ten years. While we hope that changes, it’s probably best not to expect too much. Hopefully, Capcom will recognize her importance in the next game, RE10, and give Jill the leading role she deserves.
