5 Recent RPGs Everyone Should Talk About More

The last few years have seen some amazing new role-playing games. Titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have deservedly gotten a lot of attention, but it’s easy for other great RPGs to get overlooked. While it’s always fun to revisit classic games, discovering something fresh can be really rewarding.

The last couple of years have been fantastic for gaming, with a lot of exciting new titles. This year’s Game of the Year contenders are particularly strong, including RPGs like Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. But beyond the biggest releases, there are several other excellent RPGs that deserve more attention. Here are 5 RPGs you should definitely check out and add to your play list.

5) Granblue Fantasy: Relink

Platform(s): PC, PS4, and PS5

Price: $59.99

This action RPG came out in January 2024 and quickly gained over 114,000 players on Steam. While the initial excitement has died down, it’s still a game worth checking out. It features stunning visuals, enjoyable characters, and offers a blend of fast-paced action and strategic gameplay.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink has an enjoyable single-player story and lets you team up with up to four friends online for quests. It hasn’t generated as much buzz as some newer games, likely because it doesn’t receive frequent major updates or patches. However, if you’re a fan of Japanese role-playing games and are looking for a good story and fun gameplay, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is definitely worth checking out.

4) Little Witch in the Woods

Platform(s): Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Price: $15.99

Many players had almost forgotten about Little Witch in the Woods after its long period in Early Access, but it finally launched its full version earlier this year. It’s a really delightful life simulation RPG with cute pixel art and a laid-back, relaxing style of play. Considering Witchbrook isn’t coming out until 2026, I’m a little surprised more people aren’t talking about this game, as it offers a similar cozy experience.

In Little Witch in the Woods, you take on the role of a young witch who makes her home in the forest. The game features enjoyable puzzles based on the environment, similar to those found in older Pokémon games. You’ll also brew potions, complete quests, and learn the stories of the characters you encounter. It’s a charming and relaxing game with light RPG features, ideal for players looking for a cozy experience.

3) Unicorn Overlord

Platform(s): Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

Price: $59.99

Released for consoles in March 2024, this strategy-focused RPG has earned rave reviews from players. Despite its quality, it hasn’t quite reached the mainstream popularity of other major RPGs. Fans often compare it to classics like Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest, praising its engaging gameplay and deep strategic elements.

While Unicorn Overlord doesn’t have a particularly complex story, it’s a delightful game with fun and interesting gameplay. Players love the exciting battles and strategic elements of this JRPG, so it’s definitely worth playing if you haven’t already.

2) Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi

Platform(s): PC

Price: $19.99

The indie action RPG Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, despite not having a lot of reviews. Released in August 2025, it features a beautiful art style and large world reminiscent of Studio Ghibli films and the gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Considering how popular that Nintendo game is, it’s a bit surprising Altheia isn’t getting more attention.

This game features two playable characters – a Monk and a Guardian – who team up to overcome puzzles and tough battles. The dungeons are designed with a classic Zelda feel, offering a genuinely challenging experience. For only $20, this RPG is a great value and deserves more attention than it’s currently receiving.

1) Cabernet

Platform(s): PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Price: $19.99

Okay, so Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 finally came out, and honestly, a lot of people were let down. I actually had fun with it, even with all its issues, but it definitely left me wanting a really deep, immersive vampire RPG experience. And that’s why I think more gamers should seriously check out Cabernet. It could really scratch that itch.

Okay, so I’ve been playing this really cool 2D RPG, and it’s set in 19th-century Europe – you play as a young vampire trying to survive. What’s awesome is that your choices really matter and change the story as you go. It’s got a super high rating on Steam for a reason! The story is gripping, and there’s a skill tree that adds a nice RPG depth to everything. Honestly, after how disappointed everyone was with Bloodlines 2, this game deserves way more attention than it’s getting right now. I’m totally hooked!
