It’s easy to dismiss a sitcom reboot as a sign of creative exhaustion. But is it really a bad thing to revisit a successful show, especially after many years? It can be fascinating to see how a familiar formula changes to fit the modern world, and surprisingly often, these reboots actually work. Some shows and their casts remain popular even after 15 years. Of course, that’s not always the case.
Many TV revivals don’t live up to expectations—shows like And Just Like That… haven’t recaptured the magic of the original Sex and the City, and the return of Arrested Development disappointed even dedicated fans. However, the following sitcom reboots did manage to succeed.
5) Roseanne The Conners

For nine seasons, Roseanne was a popular show on ABC, and the tenth season revival in 2018 also performed well. However, after Roseanne Barr made a controversial comparison to a character from Planet of the Apes, she was removed from the show.
Following the cancellation of Roseanne, The Conners premiered as a continuation of the story, essentially the same show without its original star. It proved popular as well, running for seven seasons. While viewership decreased over time, it remained a success, earning Emmy nominations – and even winning one award – for its editing and cinematography.

4) Will & Grace

When it first aired, Will & Grace faced some criticism for its portrayal of gay characters. However, the show is now recognized for helping to improve public attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community. It was also highly praised for the acting of its stars, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, and Sean Hayes.
As a huge fan of Will & Grace, I always felt like the revival absolutely needed all four of the original cast members to work – if even one had been missing, it wouldn’t have clicked. But something really special happened when they did that short reunion special in 2016, urging people to vote for Hillary. It felt like a genuine spark! Suddenly, after eight seasons, we got a ninth, then a tenth, and eventually an eleventh! The first of those revival seasons was definitely the strongest, but even with some dips in quality, it was still great to see them back and felt like a worthy continuation of the show I loved.

3) Futurama

Though Futurama has lasted for 10 seasons, its journey hasn’t been as straightforward as that of Matt Groening’s other hit show, The Simpsons. It’s actually been cancelled twice, but thankfully, different networks brought it back both times.
The show originally aired on Fox for four years. After a six-year break, Comedy Central revived it for three seasons, with two of those seasons being particularly long at 26 episodes each. The creators thought that was the end in 2013, and it stayed off the air for a decade. Then, in 2023, Hulu picked it up, and it’s continued to be a popular and critically-acclaimed show ever since.

2) Girl Meets World

Girl Meets World lasted for three seasons with a total of 72 episodes – a good length for a show building on an existing series. However, its biggest impact wasn’t its run on television; it played a key role in launching the career of Sabrina Carpenter.
While many fans didn’t consider Girl Meets World to be as strong as Boy Meets World, it still managed to run for three seasons and a special. Though viewership declined somewhat after the first season – likely due to initial curiosity driven by nostalgia – the show generally received positive reviews from critics.

1) Party Down

While the new seasons of Arrested Development weren’t well-received, the third season of Party Down – which returned after a 13-year hiatus – was a hit. Sadly, it appears this was a one-time revival, and won’t be continuing as a full series.
We really appreciated the six extra episodes, but we’re still hoping for more! The show remained funny and the cast still had great chemistry. While it felt a bit more updated, it didn’t stray too far from the feel of the earlier seasons. The season finale, where Henry runs into Casey, left us wanting answers – we need to know if they rekindle their relationship!
