Stealth games have consistently delivered fantastic experiences for players, and developers love experimenting within the genre, creating everything from fast-paced action-stealth to slower, strategic sneaking games. While popular titles like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell often steal the spotlight, there are many lesser-known gems worth discovering. Here are five of those hidden treasures. This isn’t a definitive list, but rather a collection of games you might have missed – something fresh to play after you’ve enjoyed all the classics.
Here are five great stealth games that went under-the-radar for many players.
5) Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Shadow Tactics is a challenging game that demands careful planning. It’s a tactical stealth title, similar to a very complex game of chess, where you control multiple heroes, each with unique skills. Rushing in with force rarely succeeds; you’ll need to be precise and perfectly timed with your actions.
The best part of Shadow Tactics is that its creator, Mimimi Games, was a true expert in turn-based strategy games. It’s sad that the studio has since closed after making Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, but if you enjoy their style of gameplay, there are several other excellent games you might like.
4) Mark of the Ninja

Just a heads-up: Klei Entertainment appears on this list more than once! Most people recognize them as the creators of the Don’t Starve games, but they’ve actually made a lot of other excellent titles too.
Mark of the Ninja is a stealth game where you move through side-scrolling levels, avoiding enemies and taking them down from the shadows. It’s visually appealing and provides a lot of options for staying hidden. Plus, a remastered version came out in 2018, so it’s still a great game to play now.
3) Gunpoint

In the game Gunpoint, players use a device called the Crosslink to rewire each level. This lets you change how things function – for instance, you could connect a light switch to a trapdoor and then use the switch to make a guard fall.
This clever puzzle game focuses on stealth and was primarily created by one person – the developer behind the game Gunpoint – in his free time. While he collaborated with artists for the graphics and sound, it’s largely his creation. Gunpoint did well enough to allow him and his team to start developing games full-time, and they’ve since released two more stealth titles.
2) Volume

Mike Bithell became well-known for his indie game Thomas Was Alone, which was a big hit in 2012. Following that success, he left his job at Bossa Studios to start his own game studio. Their first game, Volume, took the core ideas of stealth gameplay from games like Metal Gear Solid and simplified them into a focused experience.
So, there’s a story mode to get you started, but the really cool thing about Volume is that you can just keep making new levels forever! Seriously, there’s endless gameplay. It’s not trying to be super complicated, and that’s intentional. The developers really focused on making the stealth action fun and engaging, and it totally works.
1) Invisible Inc.

Next up from Klei is Invisible Inc. Unlike Mark of the Ninja, this game focuses on strategic, turn-based gameplay. You build a team of agents, each with unique skills, and complete levels using their abilities, plus a variety of items and upgrades.
What I really love about this game is that the world is different every time I play – it keeps things exciting! Plus, there are a bunch of ways to play, so I can really tailor the experience to what I’m in the mood for. I always thought Mimimi Games was amazing at stealth, but honestly, Klei Entertainment might be even better – they’re seriously masters of the genre.
Quite simply, Invisible Inc. is a remarkably overlooked gem of the 2010s, standing out even beyond the stealth genre. Klei Entertainment created a true masterpiece that deserved Game of the Year consideration in 2015, but unfortunately, many players missed it. Whether you’re a fan of stealth games or not, I highly recommend giving Invisible Inc. a try.
