Matt Murdock’s journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been nothing short of action-packed. The franchise has incorporated all the happenings from the Netflix series ‘Daredevil’, which has given him a rich history. He’s been part of an alliance called the Defenders, battling against the Hand and dismantling Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire. For a brief respite from the limelight, he’s been seen alongside She-Hulk and providing legal counsel to an unidentified Spider-Man. However, he reemerges in ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘, the Disney+ series that continues where the Netflix version left off, with Matt, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page operating their law firm in Hell’s Kitchen.
As soon as Daredevil’s second standalone series begins, it accelerates at an incredible pace, overturning the existing order and ushering in a fresh one. However, not every change endures, leading to several puzzling scenes throughout the show. Here are five aspects of Born Again that remain unclear.
1) Muse’s Grand Plan
With Matt still grieving over Foggy’s demise and struggling to accept Fisk as New York City’s mayor, he encounters news about a serial killer terrorizing the city. This criminal abducts individuals, drains their blood, and employs it to craft artwork throughout the metropolis. When Angela Del Toro falls into Muse’s clutches, Daredevil resurfaces after a prolonged hiatus, determined to rescue her and deliver a stern message to her captor.
Before Daredevil could apprehend him, Muse manages to elude capture and shifts his focus towards Heather Glenn, the hero’s girlfriend who is also a renowned therapist. Slipping into her office unnoticed, Muse intends to take Heather’s life but is prevented when Daredevil intervenes. As the villain attempts to justify his actions, he expires before revealing his reasons for turning the city into chaos.
2) Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force
The main villain promises not to bother Matt anymore if he stops using his superhero outfit. However, Daredevil reappears and defeats Muse, causing the mayor to take action. He establishes an Anti-Masked Vigilante Squad intended to suppress any masked individuals, but he fails to consider the consequences.
In “Born Again,” Kingpin manages to evade more serious consequences by mainly dealing with Daredevil and Punisher. However, New York is teeming with heroes who are far stronger than these two; among them are Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Although the former Avengers may have bigger problems to handle, characters like Jessica Jones are poised to teach Kingpin a lesson in the not-so-distant future.
3) Heather Glenn Switching Sides
In the first season of “Born Again,” Heather and Matt develop a deep connection, but there’s often a sense of distance due to Matt’s role as Daredevil. Matt keeps his secret identity hidden from Heather for her safety, which puts him in a difficult position. What he doesn’t foresee, though, is that his secrecy could drive Heather into the grasp of his main adversary.
As Fisk amasses influence, Matt tries to enlighten Heather about the true nature of the mayor, yet she dismisses his warnings. It remains puzzling why Heather accepts employment under Fisk, given his destructive actions towards the city. Granted, they might share similar views on certain matters, but there must be more advantageous job opportunities for her elsewhere.
4) Daredevil’s Army
At the conclusion of Season 1, Daredevil recognizes he’s in a hopeless struggle due to the massive support Fisk has. His strategy then becomes uniting an exceptional team eager to retaliate. However, the gathering at Josie’s Bar falls short of expectations.
Apart from Matt, no one else present can be considered a vigilante. The group consists of a few police officers and Karen. In the second season, Jessica Jones will enter the mix, but Daredevil will need to hone his recruitment abilities if he intends to permanently deal with Kingpin.
5) Foggy’s Death
In the novel “Born Again,” the pivotal event is when Bullseye shoots Foggy on the street. It’s later revealed that Vanessa Fisk arranged the assassination because Foggy was about to expose secrets she wanted kept hidden. However, this revelation seems a bit too convenient.
Towards the close of Season 1, it’s evident that Foggy’s demise hides deeper mysteries. Although overcoming Fisk might be necessary first to reveal everything, the hidden truth behind his death can’t stay concealed forever.
