5 Times The Hulk Was Basically A God

The Hulk is unrivaled in his might, shattering anyone who dares to challenge him. Regardless if they’re humans, monsters, or cosmic entities, the Incredible Hulk consistently finds ways to outmatch them and bring them to their knees. This extraordinary ability has been evident during his encounters with deities such as Thor and Hercules. Yet, the Hulk often does more than just hold his own against the strongest beings in the multiverse; he shows us what it truly means to be the strongest there is. The Hulk’s power transcends ordinary strength, and when he unleashes his full potential, he performs feats that rival those of the gods themselves. Here are five instances where the Hulk’s incomprehensible might made him nearly indistinguishable from a deity.

1) Shook the Multiverse with A Punch

The U-Foes represent some of the Hulk’s longstanding adversaries. Originally, they were a gang of power-crazed friends who aimed to replicate the space voyage that bestowed the Fantastic Four with their powers. When Bruce Banner tried to prevent this launch, it led the U-Foes to vow eternal retribution against Weakling Banner and his green counterpart. In issue #304 of The Incredible Hulk, the Hulk was teleported to another dimension by Doctor Strange, where he confronted the U-Foes once more. Ironclad, a member with the power to manipulate his own density and boasting strength comparable to the Hulk’s, immediately attacked him. The two titans collided, and the impact of their blows echoed across every dimension. Although the Hulk had allies during this encounter, the sheer strength needed to generate a shockwave throughout innumerable dimensions is beyond comprehension, demonstrating just how powerful these two colossal beings truly are.

2) Ripped Apart the Cosmos with a Clap

Issue #126 of The Incredible Hulk finds our hero involuntarily transported to another dimension yet again, a predicament he encounters far too often. This time, the cultists were responsible for his teleportation, intending him to engage in combat with the villain Night-Crawler, an individual unconnected to the mutant hero of the same name. The battle between the two was prolonged and intense, culminating when Night-Crawler discharged a sonic blast at the Emerald Behemoth. However, instead of just deflecting the soundwave, the Hulk’s counteract with a simple clap inadvertently unleashed a powerful explosion that tore apart the cosmos around them, leaving only the stone they were standing on behind. All this chaos was the result of his unintentional display of strength!

3) World Breaker Hulk

In simpler terms, during the storyline called “World War Hulk,” the Illuminati, a group of Marvel characters known for their questionable morals and high intellect, banished the Hulk into space due to concerns about his dangerousness on Earth. Upon reaching a planet where gladiatorial combat was common, he rose to power and planned an attack on Earth in retaliation for events that led to his wife’s death.

This enraged Hulk exhibited an unprecedented level of strength, overpowering several of Marvel’s strongest heroes like Doctor Strange, Juggernaut, and the Sentry with ease. His fury was so intense that he crippled Doctor Strange’s hands, sent Juggernaut flying, and engaged in a fierce battle with the Sentry.

However, it was later revealed that his loyal friend Miek had triggered the explosion of the ship to reignite Hulk’s rage for conquest. The Hulk’s anger was at an all-time high, emitting intense gamma energy, and with a single step, he caused an earthquake across the entire United States. He implored Iron Man to stop him before his wrath destroyed the world, but even then, the Hulk almost tore apart a continent with a single step. If he had thrown a punch, the resulting destruction would have been catastrophic.

4) Punched Through Time

In most instances, the Incredible Hulk’s life seems to involve others using him as a tool for their purposes, which is certainly enough to enrage anyone. The Incredible Hulk #135 saw Kang the Conqueror join this trend. Eager to eliminate the Avengers once and for all, Kang aimed to journey far back in time. However, he was hindered by a tempest in the timestream. Unphased, Kang deduced that he needed someone with enough force to burst through the storm, and no one fits that bill better than the Incredible Hulk. Kang convinced Hulk that his actions would rid him of Bruce Banner permanently, and the green giant complied promptly. Kang launched Hulk into the timestream, just before the raging tempest, but unlike the aspiring conqueror, Hulk effortlessly smashed through the barrier. While Superboy-Prime’s punching power is often ridiculed, few acknowledge equally extraordinary feats such as the Hulk punching through time. It may not be as absurd as the rewrite punch, but he did literally punch a hole in time that allowed him to pass! That calls for some recognition.

5) The Hulk Below All

In these stories, we’ve seen instances where the Hulk displayed power akin to that of a deity, but this tale presents a fascinating twist: The Hulk was not just a god-like figure, but he became God himself. While the One Above All, the ruler of Marvel Comics’ universe and their representation of God, embodies love and heroism, He is not exempt from wrath.

The Immortal Hulk storyline introduces an intriguing alternate timeline in which the embodiment of the One Above All’s fury, known as the One Below All, merged with the Hulk to ultimately destroy all existence. The Hulk served as a vessel for this divine rage, wreaking havoc across the cosmos that was crafted by the One Above All’s own hands.

In essence, the One Below All is the embodiment of the One Above All’s own Hulk, making our beloved green Hulk the instrument of His wrath. This narrative portrays the Hulk as a deity, bringing about the end of all things. It is undoubtedly his most powerful form ever, and it was in this state that he shattered more than any other being or force could ever do.
