The conversation about “Hollow Knight: Silksong” has moved from excitement that the game is now available to annoyance due to its extreme difficulty level. While whether it’s overly difficult or harder than its predecessor is up for debate, one thing is certain – this game is tough. It was intended to be challenging; Team Cherry did not create “Silksong” as an easy stroll through the park. Despite some initial difficulties, players have found that the developers have provided some genuine strategies to help those who’ve been struggling to advance.
1. You Can Skip Some Bosses
As a devoted fan, I can’t stress enough that the bosses in Silksong are no joke! Stepping into an encounter unprepared is a quick route to meeting your demise, and you’ll find yourself repeating this unpleasant dance multiple times before finally emerging victorious. The sheer number of these formidable foes makes for a challenging journey overall.
Fortunately, there are strategies to evade some of these bosses, although they aren’t always necessary. Often, avoiding them doesn’t lead to spectacular rewards anyway. So, it’s essential to choose your battles wisely in this intricate game of cat and mouse!
A standout example is Moorwing, a particularly challenging boss found in Greymoore. Alternatively, there’s a so-called “cheese” method, but if you prefer to bypass it, you can complete the Lost Fleas quest instead. While this isn’t a walk in the park, it’s significantly less daunting than battling this bird. Whenever feasible, it might be more prudent to evade boss encounters or seek the least complicated approach for an attack.
2. Farm Rosary Beads with Benches
In the world of Silksong, the economy presents an extra layer of challenge. Almost everything requires rosary beads for purchase – even some seating areas. You’ll need to spare beads for every item, map upgrade, certain benches, and fast-travel portals. The expenses accumulate rather swiftly, particularly when you don’t obtain beads from a significant portion of the enemies or any of the bosses.
Engaging in bead farming is now essential due to its monotonous and tedious nature. Luckily, there’s a simple method early in the game. Located between Bone Bottom and Mosshome, you’ll find a bench. To the left of this bench, one screen away, are two enemies that drop beads. By defeating them, collecting the beads, returning a screen, sitting down at the bench, and repeating the process, Hornet can acquire 10 beads in roughly 30 seconds. Although it may not be the quickest approach, it is easy to understand, accessible, and above all, secure.
3. Change the Pogo Attack if You Are Struggling
In terms of mechanical modifications between Hollow Knight: Silksong and its precursor, one notable difference is the introduction of the downward strike. Unlike the original game where the Knight’s downward strike was a straight drop, Hornet’s version is angled. This can be useful in certain battles, but it requires more skill to perfect, and it plays a crucial role in navigating some challenging platforming segments within the game.
Luckily, you can swap it by using Wanderer’s Crest. With the Simple Key in your possession (alongside sprint ability), make your way to Wormways, located west of Mosshome. There, you’ll find a door that can be unlocked, granting you the crest which lets you perform a downward pogo jump instead of a diagonal one.
This version aims to maintain the original meaning while making it more natural and easier to read.
4. Heal in Mid-Air
In the game Silksong, Hornet receives almost twice the damage from most enemies, which can be quite problematic. However, the healing mechanism, though not perfect, has been adjusted compared to Hollow Knight with the intention of addressing this issue. Whether it succeeds in doing so is a topic for another discussion, but I should note that the healing system in Silksong does include a useful aspect.
Healing can occur anywhere, making it even effective mid-air, which might just be the ideal spot for healing. This strategy proves particularly beneficial against bosses like Fourth Chorus, where timely dodging and healing can help you evade attacks that sweep across the screen. In such scenarios, Hornet will be momentarily suspended above the attack. For enemies attacking from below, try healing at a higher altitude instead.
5. Upgrade Tools by Buying Crafting Kits
In the game Silksong, the tools are designed to provide you with different strategies for attacking and inflicting more damage. However, keep in mind that these tools do come with a price tag. It’s unfortunate that some of them may not seem particularly strong initially, and the silk required to use them might not be worth the investment at first glance.
Those items can indeed be improved. Should you find a Crafting Kit – either by buying it from a Forge Daughter or some other means – it proves highly valuable. As per the game’s description, these tools can be refined to make them “more precise, sharper, and deadlier.” This presents an excellent opportunity to enhance those abilities and stay on par with the increasing challenge in Silksong.
