5 Ubisoft Games Canceled Alongside Prince of Persia Confirmed (& 2 Were Assassin’s Creed)

In January, Ubisoft, a major video game company, announced significant changes to its business, including layoffs and the cancellation of several games. The most notable cancellation was the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. While Ubisoft initially confirmed that five other games had also been scrapped, they didn’t disclose which titles. Now, according to a report from Insider Gaming, the full list of canceled games has been revealed.

On the latest episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, Tom Henderson revealed information from an internal Ubisoft announcement about several canceled games. These projects were at different stages of development, with some still known only by their code names. Besides the already announced cancellation of the Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game, Ubisoft also scrapped two other games that were part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The Full List of Ubisoft’s 6 Canceled Games Revealed

We’ve known for a while that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was canceled by Ubisoft. But now, we’re learning details about five other games that were also scrapped during the company’s restructuring. Here’s a complete list of those titles and what we currently know about each one.

Project Ether

This game has been in development since 2019, making it potentially the longest-running project to be canceled on this list. It was planned to use Ubisoft’s advanced Scalar technology. Although the game won’t be released, some of the technology created for Project Ether is reportedly being used in a different, unrevealed game.

Project Pathfinder

Many tabletop RPG fans might think of Paizo’s Pathfinder when they hear about this, but it’s probably not connected. Details are scarce, but it seems the project was canceled around last year.

Project Crest

I was really excited when I first heard about this game – it was going to be a World War 2 shooter where you tried to get in, complete objectives, and get out. But honestly, with so many games doing that same thing lately, I kind of figured it might not last. Plus, it was planned as a live service game, meaning Ubisoft would have needed to keep adding content and supporting it for a long time, and I guess they decided it wasn’t worth the continued effort.

Assassin’s Creed Rebellion

I’m a little bummed to hear that one of my favorite mobile games is shutting down. It’s the only game on this list you can actually play right now, and it’s been around since 2018 as a free-to-play title. Sadly, it makes sense, since the team in Halifax that made it has already closed up shop. It’s still disappointing though, knowing I won’t be able to play it for much longer.

Assassin’s Creed Singularity

Singularity was a mobile game being developed as part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Though never officially announced, the project reached a stage where it had a working title. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has now cancelled the game. It’s currently unclear if this signals a change in Ubisoft’s strategy for Assassin’s Creed on mobile devices.

Fans of Assassin’s Creed have reason to be optimistic: the long-awaited remake of Black Flag appears to still be in development. While it was widely believed to be among Ubisoft’s delayed projects, a delay doesn’t necessarily mean cancellation. This suggests Ubisoft isn’t completely giving up on one of its most important franchises, though they might be reducing their focus on mobile games.
