Godzilla is undeniably awesome! Whether in comics or movies, stories featuring the King of the Monsters are always a fun ride. That’s why he’s become such a famous pop culture figure. Godzilla is enjoying a lot of success right now, with great comic series from IDW and the return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (even though that show focuses more on the wider Monsterverse). But like any popular icon, Godzilla isn’t afraid to branch out. Over the years, he’s appeared in a lot of crossovers, especially in comics, and some of them are pretty strange!
Godzilla isn’t afraid to team up with anyone – from superheroes and everyday folks in the DC and Marvel worlds, to basketball stars, and even characters from famous books! He’s been in a lot of surprising crossovers, and these five are some of the strangest – but in a good way. Any Godzilla enthusiast should definitely check them out.
5) Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theater Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla
This book isn’t out yet, but the concept is so unusual we’re already intrigued! A retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet starring Godzilla sounds wonderfully crazy. We’re really excited to read it, along with the bonus story about Godzilla and Robin Hood.
Godzilla is crashing into classic literature, and his next target is Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet! This unique mashup promises a tale of star-crossed lovers, feuding families, and, of course, Godzilla wreaking havoc. The big question everyone’s asking is: which family does Godzilla side with – the Montagues or the Capulets? You can find out when the book is released on April 8, 2026.
4) Godzilla Vs. Barkley

Remember when I mentioned Godzilla playing basketball with a famous athlete? I wasn’t joking! It all began with a Nike commercial in 1992 featuring Charles Barkley challenging Godzilla to a game in the city of Toyo. The commercial was a huge hit and even inspired a comic book!
This comic, released by Dark Horse Comics in 1993, takes a different approach than the original. While the source material is set in Japan, most of the action here happens in California. It’s completely over-the-top and doesn’t really follow a logical story – like, why would Godzilla be interested in basketball? – but it’s a really enjoyable read.
3) Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong

Forget just one team-up – this series delivers two! And when King Kong is involved, things get really exciting. The seven-issue story from 2023 throws Godzilla and Kong into the DC Universe, and it’s completely over the top. It’s a complex plot featuring Lex Luthor, the Legion of Doom, and a huge cast of heroes – you really have to read it to understand just how crazy it is.
What makes this team-up so unusual—beyond Godzilla and Kong fighting the Justice League—is that the story doesn’t quite get the most out of Godzilla himself. However, Kong has some fantastic moments, including surprisingly receiving a Green Lantern ring towards the end. It’s true—he really does!
2) Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Marvel’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters comic from the 1970s is full of strange team-ups, so the entire 24-issue run is worth mentioning. It features Godzilla battling groups like the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., and has a distinct, stylish look that really captures the feel of the decade.
Even with all the unexpected team-ups in the series, issue #23 might be the most bizarre. It features J. Jonah Jameson acting like his usual self, desperately trying to get a big story on Godzilla, even as the monster destroys the city around him. The result is Jameson simply shouting at Godzilla from an open window and immediately getting hit with a blast. It’s certainly a unique way to handle the media!
1) Godzilla Vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

This pairing might not seem strange at first glance. Although Godzilla teaming up with the Power Rangers is an unexpected combination, it actually works surprisingly well – it’s just the kind of lighthearted fun you’d expect from Power Rangers. Fans enjoyed it too, as it led to a follow-up series.
The comic Godzilla Vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers features Rita Repulsa accidentally pulling Godzilla into the Power Rangers’ world. This leads to an epic battle between Godzilla and the Dinozords. Despite being an unexpected team-up, the crossover is surprisingly well-executed and full of action.
