The Absolute Wonder Woman comic has been a hit with both fans and critics, largely because of its unique take on the character – reimagining Wonder Woman as a witch from Hell. Like the main Wonder Woman series, Absolute Wonder Woman also offers fresh perspectives on classic villains like Veronica Cale, Cheetah, Circe, Doctor Poison, and Queen Clea. In fact, this version of Wonder Woman has an even more impressive group of enemies, as all the major male Greek Gods, including Zeus, serve as her biggest threats. However, there are still many other memorable Wonder Woman villains from DC Comics that could be creatively re-imagined within the Absolute Universe.
With darkness dominating the world, Wonder Woman’s classic foes – like Veronica Cale and the ruthless Greek Gods – offer exciting possibilities. We already know Giganta will be a major threat in the Absolute Wonder Woman series. Here’s a look at other enemies of the Amazon Princess who could become even more dangerous in the Absolute Universe.
5) Silver Swan

Both the Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman storylines have featured disturbing body horror stemming from human experimentation, making Vanessa Kapatelis, known as Silver Swan, a great fit for this universe. In the regular DC comics, Vanessa was Wonder Woman’s friend before being kidnapped and turned into a brainwashed cyborg assassin, tasked with killing Wonder Woman. The Absolute universe could build on this tragic origin, making Vanessa’s transformation even more horrifying. It would also make sense for Veronica Cale to create new enemies to target Wonder Woman. Silver Swan’s powers – a powerful sonic scream, increased strength, and bladed wings – would make her a formidable opponent for the Last Amazon.
4) Doctor Cyber

Within the Absolute Universe, Wonder Woman is depicted as a remarkably powerful witch. A compelling opponent for her would be Doctor Cyber, a technologically advanced character who has appeared twice in DC Comics, always as a foe to Wonder Woman. If introduced to this universe, Doctor Cyber would likely be a frightening, heavily-cybernetic being, working alongside Veronica Cale to control the world. This version could also explore the dangers of modern misinformation by using AI to damage Wonder Woman’s reputation. A conflict between them would represent a powerful clash between magic and technology.
3) Hercules

As a huge DC fan, I’ve always felt Hercules’ character has been a little inconsistent. Sometimes he’s a good guy, sometimes not. But the new ‘Absolute Universe’ offers a really exciting chance to create a truly terrifying and focused Hercules – a real powerhouse villain. What really intrigues me is the potential to delve deeper into the history of the Amazons and their imprisonment. I’ve always wondered about that! The idea that Hercules might have been directly involved in their confinement – maybe even responsible for trapping them and separating Diana – is brilliant. It could be so much more than just the Amazons choosing to isolate themselves. And imagine Hercules as Zeus’s ruthless attack dog, specifically sent after Wonder Woman! That would be a phenomenal dynamic and really raise the stakes.
2) Doctor Psycho

Doctor Psycho is one of Wonder Woman’s most dangerous foes, known for his telepathic powers and hateful beliefs. In a universe where villains rule, he’d be even more dangerous. He could use his mind control and prejudiced views to influence a vast audience, either through greatly amplified powers or by controlling a large media organization. This would allow him to spread harmful lies and bigotry, making the world a more prejudiced place. Beyond this widespread influence, his powerful telepathy would also present a unique and formidable challenge to Wonder Woman and her magical abilities.
1) Ares

The upcoming Absolute Universe in DC Comics could introduce an incredibly powerful version of Ares, the Greek God of War. Because Ares gains strength from global conflict, and with so much villainy causing wars and unrest, he’d be almost invincible. This universe portrays all the Greek Gods as cruel, and Ares would likely be the worst of them – possibly as Zeus’s top soldier, or even secretly controlling Zeus himself. As always, Ares would be Wonder Woman’s greatest challenge to achieving peace.
