5 Worst Things Vegeta Did in Dragon Ball Z

Over the years, Dragon Ball Z has featured many characters, but few have resonated with fans as much as Prince Vegeta. Initially presented as a frightening enemy, Vegeta gradually evolves into one of the series’ most beloved and dependable heroes. His compelling character is built on a heartbreaking past and a difficult journey of self-improvement. After his defeat by Goku early in the series, Vegeta became determined to exceed Goku’s power. His Saiyan pride wouldn’t let him be overshadowed by someone he considered inferior.

Despite his relentless efforts, Goku consistently surpassed Vegeta, even in achieving the Super Saiyan transformation. Vegeta’s journey from enemy to ally wasn’t quick; it took years for him to accept that Goku was the stronger fighter. Throughout his time as a villain and even after joining the Z Fighters, up until the battle with Buu, Vegeta made numerous mistakes and sometimes hurt innocent people.

5) Didn’t Care For His Family Initially

Vegeta’s character has evolved a lot in Dragon Ball Super, and he’s now openly affectionate towards his family. However, this wasn’t always the case in Dragon Ball Z. Although he and Bulma became a couple and had a son, Trunks, Vegeta remained intensely focused on gaining power. For a long time, he didn’t prioritize his family, and surprisingly, didn’t even hug Trunks until the boy was eight years old.

4) Allowed Babidi to Turn Him Into a Majin

Seven years after defeating Cell, Vegeta became obsessed with gaining more power, leading him to willingly fall under the control of the evil wizard Babidi. Although he could have resisted, Vegeta welcomed the increased strength. This led to a fierce battle with Goku, and the incredible energy released during their fight unintentionally allowed Majin Buu to break free and begin causing destruction.

3) Allowed Cell to Reach His Perfect Form

Vegeta and Future Trunks became much stronger after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, easily exceeding the power of Cell after he absorbed Android 17. Vegeta could have defeated Cell and saved Earth multiple times, but he chose to see how far he could push himself. He let Cell absorb Android 18, allowing him to reach his perfect, most powerful form. He disregarded warnings from Future Trunks and ultimately suffered the consequences of his pride.

2) Massacred Innocent Civilians During The Tournament

Vegeta grew frustrated when Goku refused to fight him, so he resorted to a shocking act: he killed hundreds of people watching the tournament. He threatened to continue the destruction unless Goku accepted his challenge. Thankfully, the Dragon Balls were used to bring everyone back, but this remains a particularly violent moment for Vegeta, and his subsequent fight with Goku only made things worse.

1) Killed an Entire Namekian Village

Following his battles with the Saiyans, Vegeta traveled to Namek seeking Dragon Balls, hoping to become strong enough to defeat Frieza. While searching, he destroyed a village, killing around twenty people, including children and the elderly. These villagers weren’t brought back to life when the Namekians used the Dragon Balls, as the wish only covered those killed by Frieza and his forces. Because Vegeta had broken away from Frieza by that point, the Dragon Balls wouldn’t restore anyone he had killed.
