Even though the Attack on Titan manga finished its story five years ago with an ending that sparked a lot of debate, the series remains incredibly popular. The anime, which began in 2013 and is based on Hajime Isayama’s manga, quickly became a huge hit. When it came time to animate the final part of the story, the studio WIT stepped down, and MAPPA took over. MAPPA is known for other popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, and their version of Attack on Titan improved the animation even further, concluding the story in 2023. The final season jumps ahead four years and focuses on Eren Yeager’s journey after discovering the truth about the world.
The ending of the manga caused a lot of debate among fans, both because of its sad outcome and the many loose ends it left. While the anime adaptation eased some of the disappointment, one big mystery about Mikasa Ackerman lingered. Now, with the return of the anime to theaters in a remastered Dolby Cinema version of Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack – a special compilation of the finale’s two parts – fans will finally get the answer to who Mikasa married after the events of the Rumbling.
Attack on Titan’s Latest Screening Reveals Mikasa’s Husband

Even though many fans believed Mikasa married Jean Kirstein after the events of the story, it was just a popular theory until recently. After a screening of the film, news quickly spread online – accounts like @lizhecateisis reported that a scene after the credits showed Mikasa and Jean continuing to visit Eren’s grave, now with their children and even grandchildren.
Mikasa had loved Eren since they were children, but she was ultimately forced to kill him to end the devastating Rumbling. By then, Eren had already caused immense destruction, wiping out roughly 80% of the world’s population. He had become a colossal Titan, but his head remained within the mouth of his gigantic, skeletal Titan form. Mikasa entered this form and killed him with a single blow. She then carried his head back to their hometown and buried it beneath his favorite tree.
Following Eren’s death, Mikasa held onto the scarf he had given her and was buried with it when she passed away peacefully in old age. Jean was a very close friend who had feelings for her from the start, but Mikasa’s heart belonged to Eren, and their potential relationship wasn’t developed in the story. Even after the fighting ended, the series only showed a glimpse of Jean growing old alongside Mikasa, seen from behind. While many clues suggested they eventually married and built a life together, the story never confirmed it, leaving their relationship open to interpretation. Ultimately, the details of their life as a couple and any family they may have had remained a mystery.
