6 Awful Marvel Movie Characters Who Deserve Another Chance in the MCU

These days, being in a Marvel movie is a huge boost for any character. The Marvel Cinematic Universe can significantly raise a character’s profile, leading to opportunities like starring in their own projects and even becoming a central figure in comics and games. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a prime example, as James Gunn’s films have developed them into relatable and emotionally engaging heroes. However, not all Marvel characters are so lucky, as they don’t always have a creative team dedicated to fully realizing their potential.

Many Marvel movies exist outside of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and unfortunately, a lot of them aren’t very good. They often ignore the original stories and characters, using them simply as a disguise for weak plots and uninteresting people. Despite this, there are six particularly bad Marvel movie characters who could be improved with a fresh start within the MCU.

6) Ghost Rider

Nicolas Cage is surprisingly good as Johnny Blaze, injecting his unique energy into the role. However, the *Ghost Rider* films don’t fully explore the character’s rich backstory. They keep him fighting standard villains on Earth instead of delving into the hellish origins that define him. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe taking on Ghost Rider, there’s hope for a more compelling portrayal, and rumors suggest we might see him return soon.

5) Blob

With the X-Men joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can expect a lot of new villains. While characters like Magneto and Mystique will likely appear first, the studio shouldn’t overlook Blob. He was unfairly portrayed as a joke in *X-Men Origins: Wolverine*, despite being a very powerful character, and never got a chance to truly shine.

4) Apocalypse

The *X-Men* movies haven’t always gotten their villains right, and Blob isn’t the only example. In *X-Men: Apocalypse*, the team faces a huge threat when the first mutant, Apocalypse, emerges in Egypt and causes widespread destruction. Despite nearly destroying the world, Apocalypse doesn’t come across as particularly frightening. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a chance to show audiences just how truly menacing Apocalypse and his followers, the Horsemen, can be.

3) Hobgoblin

Despite being a popular villain in Marvel comics, Hobgoblin hasn’t made an appearance in any Marvel films. Sam Raimi’s *Spider-Man* movies used Harry Osborn as the New Goblin instead, which is similar enough to acknowledge the character. Marvel seems determined to feature the Green Goblin – he even appeared in *Spider-Man: No Way Home* – but Hobgoblin is equally compelling and deserves a significant role in a movie.

2) Cyclops

As a huge Marvel fan, it’s always bothered me how they’ve treated Cyclops. He’s a major character, showing up a *lot* across the Marvel universe, but the original X-Men movies really shortchanged him. He always felt like a supporting player, mostly just reacting when Wolverine got jealous! And honestly, the reboot with Tye Sheridan didn’t help – he never really got to shine as a leader. Even seeing James Marsden reprise the role in *Avengers: Doomsday* felt like a tease. The guy *needs* a proper showcase of his leadership skills – a real chance to be the X-Men’s commander, not just a bystander.

1) Ronan the Accuser

Ronan the Accuser is already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in both *Guardians of the Galaxy* and *Captain Marvel*. However, those movies portray him as a fairly weak character who quickly retreats when faced with difficulty. While it would take a significant story change to give him a more compelling role, the multiverse offers possibilities. Another version of Ronan could emerge, determined to live up to his comic book persona by causing major trouble and gaining the attention of powerful figures like Thanos.
