Fantasy is a consistently popular genre, and these are six of the best fantasy movies released in 2025. Beloved franchises like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia all fall into this exciting genre.
Looking ahead to 2026, it’s clear fantasy is going to dominate the box office – we’ve got Christopher Nolan’s follow-up and a new take on Narnia coming our way. But 2025 hasn’t been a total fantasy drought. While things were a bit quieter this year, there were still some real gems, and I want to highlight six of my favorites.
6) Death of a Unicorn
A24 released a number of fantasy films this year, including Death of a Unicorn. The movie, directed by Alex Scharfman, features Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd as a father and daughter on a work retreat. During their drive, they accidentally hit a unicorn. Their company intends to profit from the unicorn’s magic, but things don’t go as planned.

5) Wicked: For Good
The story of Oz continued on the big screen in 2025 with the release of Wicked: For Good, the second film in the Wicked series. Continuing directly after the first movie, the film focuses on the intense conflict between Elphaba and the Wizard of Oz, as depicted in the second act of the original Broadway musical.
Though not quite as strong as the first movie, Wicked: For Good is still very enjoyable. The story expands the magical world of Oz, taking Elphaba beyond the walls of Shiz University. This larger scope gives the film an epic feel, though it’s a bit different from the typically cheerful portrayal of Oz. Currently, Wicked: For Good has a 67
4) Good Fortune
Despite not generating much initial buzz, Good Fortune proved to be an excellent fantasy film and a standout of 2025. Keanu Reeves plays Gabriel, a somewhat clumsy guardian angel tasked with helping Arj (Aziz Ansari), the assistant to powerful tech CEO Jeff (Seth Rogen). Gabriel tries to improve Arj’s life by magically swapping his and Jeff’s places, but this decision leads to a series of unfortunate events.
Directed and written by Ansari, Good Fortune is a surprisingly enjoyable fantasy comedy. The film really showcases Reeves’ talent for comedy, and the three comedians involved generate a lot of laughs. Though the fantasy setting isn’t the primary focus, it’s a solid modern fantasy story, earning a 79
3) The Legend of Ochi
Directed by Isaiah Saxon and featuring Helena Zengel, Finn Wolfhard, and Willem Dafoe, The Legend of Ochi is a sci-fi film from A24. The story takes place in a secluded village where children are warned to be afraid of creatures called the Ochi. When a young girl discovers a baby Ochi, she embarks on a remarkable journey to return it to its family.
Despite failing to make a profit at the box office – it earned just $4.9 million with a $10 million budget – The Legend of Ochi was well-received by critics, scoring a 75
2) Ne Zha 2
Ne Zha 2 is a record-breaking animated film, becoming the highest-grossing of all time and earning a spot among the best of 2025. The story centers on Ne Zha, a strong and courageous boy who, despite being feared by the gods, is destined to save the world from a powerful evil.
This Chinese animated film is visually stunning, boasting incredible fight sequences. It draws heavily from Chinese mythology to create a grand story and memorable characters, and critics agree it’s excellent – it currently has a 92
1) KPop Demon Hunters
Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters is being hailed as the top fantasy film of 2025 and is a huge hit with audiences. The movie centers around three K-pop stars who secretly fight demons and protect the world. Their mission gets complicated when a rival group of demonic performers arrives and tries to steal their spotlight, forcing the heroes to stop a new, dangerous scheme.
