Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday, which naturally raises questions about what’s next for Captain America. Although the new Avengers movie is less than a year away, details are still scarce. While many actors are confirmed and we’ve seen four trailers hinting at the plot, the main villain, Doom, hasn’t been featured, and currently, the film feels more like a collection of ideas than a fully formed story.
Okay, so a few weeks ago, the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday dropped with the Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer, and I almost lost it! They showed Steve Rogers in his house with Peggy from Avengers: Endgame – it looks like shortly after he went back in time. And get this – he’s holding a baby! The trailer then cuts to a release date countdown, which is killing me because I need to know what’s going on! Seriously, who is that baby and what does it all mean?!
6) Who is Steve Rogers’ Baby?

The baby shown in the Doomsday trailer is a new face, and the most likely explanation is that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter had a child together. They shared a full life, giving them plenty of opportunity. His disappearance from the main Marvel timeline after Iron Man might seem strange, but it’s easily explained by him living on an alternate timeline.
Naturally, the footage has sparked some interesting theories, with one particularly outlandish idea claiming Steve Rogers’ child could be Tony Stark. This theory proposes that Tony Stark is actually a version of Victor von Doom, and that Steve and Peggy secretly took him in and raised him as their son. While it doesn’t quite hold up under scrutiny, these theories demonstrate what happens when fans are given just a glimpse of the story.
5) Is Steve Rogers Still An Active Hero?

Steve Rogers played Captain America throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his recent return doesn’t automatically mean he’s resuming the role. When Steve went back in time to live with Peggy Carter, it suggested he stepped down as a superhero. Although a major crisis, like a ‘Doomsday’ scenario, could force him to pick up the shield again, it’s also possible he remains retired during the events shown in the recent teaser.
Some fans believe Steve Rogers might be the character known as Nomad. In the Marvel comics, Rogers adopts the Nomad identity when he loses faith in the U.S. government. Although it differs from the source material, the name ‘Nomad’ would fit well with a character traveling through different time periods.
4) Where is Peggy Carter?

It’s curious that Peggy Carter isn’t shown in the new trailer, considering Steve Rogers traveled back in time to be with her. The trailer is brief, so she might simply not appear in these particular scenes. However, the presence of a baby and Peggy’s absence suggest something unusual is happening. While Hayley Atwell’s involvement in the film, Doomsday, hasn’t been officially confirmed, rumors linked her to the project before Steve Rogers’ appearance was revealed. It would be surprising if she wasn’t included, unless something unfortunate has occurred – a particularly upsetting outcome considering the events of Endgame.
3) Will Steve Learn That Sam is Captain America?

The movie Avengers: Endgame showed an older Steve Rogers passing the title of Captain America to Sam Wilson. Sam has been playing Captain America ever since, even starring in Captain America: Brave New World. But if Steve Rogers were to join the current heroes in a future movie like Doomsday, it could create problems with the established timeline.
If Steve Rogers met the current Avengers team, he’d realize Sam Wilson was his future successor as Captain America – a younger version of himself before he retired. This would create a strange loop: Steve would choose Sam because he’d already seen Sam successfully be Captain America, making the whole thing a self-fulfilling prophecy.
2) Did Steve’s Endgame Time Travel Cause Doomsday’s Story?

The details surrounding the story of Doomsday are currently scarce, but it appears to be deeply connected to the multiverse, including ideas like incursions, anchor beings, and the TVA. Given that Earth-616 was the main timeline until the events of Loki season 2, Steve Rogers’ actions with time travel in Endgame might be what triggered the events of Doomsday.
If Doctor Doom is attempting to dominate all realities, finding Steve Rogers might be crucial to his scheme. Steve’s journey with the Infinity Stones and his life with Peggy Carter have created major disruptions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making him a potential target for Doom.
1) Is Doom Looking For Steve?

I’ve been thinking about how the latest theories connect, and it really seems like Doctor Doom is after Steve Rogers. The Doomsday trailer strongly suggests Steve will be pulled into the events somehow, and what better way than through Doom’s interference? We don’t know why Doom would want Steve, but honestly, building Doomsday around the dynamic between Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’ characters just makes so much sense for Marvel. It would be a really compelling direction for the story.
