It seems like the year just began, yet another month of DC Comics has passed! January was packed with action – intense fights continued in DC K.O., classic villains resurfaced with fresh threats, and we learned more about the mysteries of the Absolute Universe. Time really flies – it feels like only yesterday I started this weekly summary of everything happening in DC Comics. We’re back after a short break last week (sorry for the interruption!), and ready to share all the important moments from this week’s DC releases.
The last week of January was packed with exciting new developments in DC Comics! We saw four main series titles, plus several tie-ins to DC K.O., featuring major events like Batman and Wonder Woman venturing into hell and Static’s long-awaited return to the main DC Universe. Before moving on to February, let’s recap the highlights from this week’s releases so you don’t miss a thing.
6. Mister Terrific Nearly Betrays the Justice League

In the fifteenth issue of Justice League Unlimited, Mister Terrific’s quest leads him and his team on a dangerous journey to Hell, seeking a deal with the villain Neron. Along the way, they face numerous obstacles and become separated. Terrific eventually reaches Neron and proposes a surprising trade: he’ll work as a spy for Neron on Earth if Neron stops empowering supervillains. However, Neron refuses, revealing he already has a mole in the League—Owlwoman. It’s shocking to think Terrific was almost willing to betray his teammates.
5. Absolute Suicide Squad Debuts

In Absolute Wonder Woman #16, Diana faces a major threat from her enemy, Veronica Cale, who is determined to defeat her. Picking up the story from Absolute Wonder Woman #12, Cale assembles a team of super-powered individuals – including Doctor Poison, Giganta, and Zatanna – forming a dangerous group. They attack a gala at the Natural History Museum in Gateway City, and Zatanna’s prior spell strips Wonder Woman of her magical abilities. With her powers weakened and the team ready to strike, it’s unclear how Diana will escape this dangerous situation.
4. Absolute Martian Manhunter is Replaced

The eighth issue of Absolute Martian Manhunter could be a major shift for the series. John needs some time to work on his marriage, so the Martian Manhunter is left to handle things on his own. Unfortunately, a dangerous group called the Agency manages to capture him in a truly shocking scene. Meanwhile, John finds himself connected to a new being called Despair-the-Zero, a creature drawn to negativity, who enthusiastically declares himself John’s new partner. Things are about to get complicated!
3. Green Lantern Gives the Flash His Powers Back

As a long-time fan, I was thrilled to see Barry Allen back in action! It’s been a while since we last saw him in Absolute Power, but he hasn’t lost his heroic spirit. In Green Lantern #31, Barry finds himself in a tough spot – he’s testifying in court and some seriously dangerous criminals are after him. Luckily, he knows who to call – Hal Jordan! Hal steps in to help, and it’s awesome to see him create a construct suit for Barry, even temporarily giving him super-speed again. It doesn’t stick around for long, but it was just really cool seeing Barry running with the best of them once more.
2. Absolute Wonder Woman and Batman’s Second Team-Up

Following a fantastic team-up last month, DC Comics reunited Batman and Wonder Woman in Absolute Batman #16. The story sends Batman and Wonder Woman on a journey to the underworld, hoping to restore Bruce’s friend Waylon (who is currently the monstrous Absolute Killer Croc) to his normal self. It’s an exciting adventure with plenty of action and heartwarming moments between the two heroes. A highlight of the issue is definitely Batman riding Wonder Woman’s Pegasus! While I appreciate the story’s current pace, I’m eager to see Batman and Wonder Woman team up again in the future.
1. Static Returns to the Main DC Universe

No one expected this turn of events! DC K.O.: The Kids Are All Fight #1 centered on a team of young heroes battling Granny Goodness and the Female Furies. Just when it seemed like they might fail, Static showed up and helped them win. This is exciting because it’s Static’s first appearance in the main DC Universe in a long time. Hopefully, this isn’t just a brief appearance, and DC Comics has significant plans for Static going forward.
