If the Nintendo Switch 2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, it’s likely to amass an impressive collection of games by the time it concludes its run. The exclusives from Nintendo are known for being top-notch, and with technology comparable to the latest advancements, there’s no telling how spectacular the sequel could be.
Few games have been formally unveiled so far: Donkey Kong: Bananza, Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Some others are in development and will be released later, but it’s expected that more titles will join the lineup over the product lifespan. Here’s what we hope to see in the future.
6. Mario Sports Mix
Over the years, some fantastic Mario sports games have been released. Mario Hoops 3-on-3 often goes unnoticed, but classics like Super Mario Strikers, Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Tennis, and Mario Golf are worthy of a return too.
Nintendo possesses the capability to create a new edition of the popular game Mario Sports Mix, potentially incorporating multiple sports as seen in Wii Sports, enhanced with improved mechanics, a wider variety of games, and the iconic Mario characters. This could easily be a successful hit among fans.
5. Super Mario Odyssey 2
There’s been a lot of speculation that Donkey Kong: Bananza might actually be the long-anticipated sequel to Mario Odyssey due to their similar gameplay elements. However, instead of just another game in the same vein, we yearn for a true sequel to one of the best platformers ever made. Mario Odyssey was groundbreaking for the franchise, and it would be intriguing to witness what a sequel on a console with superior capabilities could achieve.
Eventually, we can expect a new 3D Mario platformer, and ideally, this should be a follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey. While other games like Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy could potentially receive sequels (or even standalone ones), the quality of the latest one warrants another installment in the series.
4. Super Smash Bros.
It’s likely that we’ll see another installment of “Super Smash Bros.” in the future, just as Nintendo didn’t stop producing Mario Kart games after the successful and franchise-defining “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe”.
It’s quite plausible that the next “Super Smash Bros.” game could learn from the design of “Mario Kart World“. While “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” was an epic masterpiece with a vast array of characters, arenas, and additional content, it’s challenging to surpass that level of grandeur. Instead, Nintendo might need to introduce a novel feature or unique twist to distinguish the upcoming game, rather than trying to exceed the previous one.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
A remake is bound to happen at times, and that’s not always a negative occurrence. For instance, “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” has undergone two remakes since its initial release on GameCube. It resurfaced on the Wii, with many believing it offers the best gaming experience, and subsequently reappeared on the Wii U.
Despite continuous requests from players for a remake on the original Switch, none was provided. Similarly, they requested a remake for Wind Waker, which eventually arrived on the Switch through Nintendo Switch Online’s collection of GameCube games. Acclaimed as one of the greatest Zelda games and one of the best video games ever created, it merits a modern audience with updated graphics (since that version still showcases the best Link and Zelda have ever appeared) and improved mechanics.
2. Super Mario Maker 3
The “Super Mario Maker” series offers a great deal of enjoyment, however, its potential has often been limited by the technology of the consoles it’s on. Given that the latest Nintendo console is the most advanced yet, it’s only fitting that it maximizes this opportunity. Furthermore, there’s a new game in the “Super Mario” series called “Wonder” since the last one, so incorporating its unique items and power-ups would be ideal.
As a gamer, I’m excited about the prospect of a third game that can correct past mistakes and take creativity to new heights. This game could give players the ability to design their own games with various levels, just like any other game we know. With the vast array of Mario assets at our disposal, there’s no limit to what we might create. Why should there be restrictions? With the powerful processing capabilities of the Switch 2, this game could become one of the most creatively innovative games ever made.
1. Yoshi’s Island
Yoshi’s Island remains one of Nintendo’s finest 2D platformer creations, but it warrants a genuine, high-quality sequel. The DS game that introduced additional baby characters didn’t live up to expectations, so it’s crucial that Nintendo focuses on creating a worthy successor for the Switch 2. In simpler terms, they should prioritize developing an excellent Yoshi’s Island sequel for their upcoming console.
The quality of Yoshi’s Island, released in the 1990s, is hard to surpass when considering its music, level design, and all aspects in between. If you could experience a game like that today with modern gaming advancements, it would be extraordinary. Notably, Nintendo has not fully utilized the character Yoshi, so this hypothetical remake would also address that issue.
