Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners have access to a growing collection of retro games. The Nintendo Classics library, part of the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Classics collection, is included with a standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription – you don’t need the more expensive Expansion Pack. While not every classic NES game is available in the library, and some have been released separately over time, it’s a great way to experience these titles. Now, it seems like even more classic games from the 90s may be coming to the Switch and Switch 2.
A Reddit user, @SemiLazyGamer, recently discovered an ESRB rating that hints at a potential collection of classic NES games coming to both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. The rating is for The Disney Afternoon Collection, a game previously released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2017, and developed by Atari. While the rating suggests a release on Nintendo’s consoles, there hasn’t been an official announcement yet.
What’s Included in the Disney Afternoon Collection That Could Be Headed to Switch & Switch 2

This collection features six classic NES games originally released in the 90s, all based on the popular animated series The Disney Afternoon. Although Nintendo hasn’t officially announced a version for the Switch or Switch 2 yet, we know what games were included in the collection’s first release in 2017. If a Switch/Switch 2 version is made, it will probably include the same games, giving us a strong indication of what to expect.
The Disney Afternoon Collection included these games, created by Digital Eclipse and released by Capcom:
- Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (1990)
- Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 (1993)
- Darkwing Duck (1992)
- DuckTales (1989)
- DuckTales 2 (1993)
- TaleSpin (1991)

Most of the games in this collection are retro-style platformers with pixel art, although Darkwing Duck stands out as a shooting game. When it was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, critics generally liked it. If you’re a fan of old-school Disney or NES platformers, this collection is worth checking out.
Because this game collection is already well-regarded, it’s expected to be sold separately for the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, not included with the Nintendo Switch Online Classics service. Currently, none of these games are on that service, so if it does become available, it will give retro gaming fans on Switch and Switch 2 more choices. We’ll have to wait for Nintendo to officially announce if this collection is coming to their consoles before we know for sure.
