Everyone needs a good laugh, and HBO Max is hoping to provide one by adding a fantastic comedy series to its lineup. It’s a perfect opportunity to watch – or revisit – a truly great show, and it offers a welcome distraction from everything going on in the world, especially providing some comfort to fans who are currently mourning a recent loss.
As a big film and TV fan, I was thrilled to see that all six seasons of Schitt’s Creek are now streaming on HBO Max! It’s fantastic news for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to watch it yet, and a great way to revisit this truly funny show. Plus, it’s such a wonderful tribute to Catherine O’Hara – she was a comedic genius, and this series really lets her shine.
Schitt’s Creek Is Only Getting Better With Age (Watch It!)

Schitt’s Creek was a popular Canadian comedy that aired from 2015 to 2020. It received widespread critical acclaim, winning 9 Primetime Emmy Awards from a total of 19 nominations. In 2020, the show won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and its four main actors all won Emmys in their respective acting categories.
Schitt’s Creek centers on the Rose family – Johnny, a former video store tycoon, his out-of-touch actress wife Moira, their spoiled daughter Alexis, and fashion-forward son David. The family loses their fortune due to poor investments, leaving them completely broke. Their only remaining possession is a small town called Schitt’s Creek, which Johnny once bought as a joke. Forced to leave their lavish lifestyle behind, the Roses move to this rural town. While they try to exploit the town and its people to regain their wealth, the local residents begin to question the Roses’ values and what truly matters in life.
Schitt’s Creek is a comedy gem, brilliantly using both ironic situations and understated humor. Catherine O’Hara’s portrayal of Moira Rose is especially memorable – she constantly pretends to be capable and down-to-earth, even though the show repeatedly proves otherwise. Now that the series is over, O’Hara’s nuanced and hilarious performance feels even more special, and it seemed to revitalize her career. It was also unique to see veteran comedian Eugene Levy (known from American Pie) not only star in the show, but also create it with his son, Dan. For Dan Levy, Schitt’s Creek was a major success that proved he was a talented comedian in his own right, not just benefiting from family connections.
Beyond its own success, Schitt’s Creek launched the careers of many talented comedic actors. Annie Murphy, for example, now leads her own show (Kevin Can Fk Himself on AMC) and has appeared in popular series like Russian Doll and Black Mirror (Netflix) and Nine Perfect Strangers (Hulu). Emily Hampshire (who played Stevie) has starred in reboots like 12 Monkeys and The Rig (Amazon Prime Video), and will appear in Marvel’s VisionQuest on Disney+. The entire supporting cast has continued to find success in other projects, making Schitt’s Creek even more impressive in retrospect.
