The duo – Harley and the Joker – wreaked havoc across Gotham City with their criminal escapades, only to be thwarted by none other than Batman.

Lately, Harley Quinn has distanced herself from the Joker and now focuses on doing what’s right. She acts more like an anti-hero, striving to prevent crimes instead of causing them. In essence, she’s transformed into a protector, helping others rather than stirring up trouble. On some occasions, Harley Quinn has shown herself to be just as noble as Batman, even surpassing him in her quest for justice.

People well-versed in Harley Quinn’s story are aware of the wretched treatment the Joker inflicted upon her. Over a prolonged period, she suffered intense abuse – both physically and psychologically – at the hands of the notorious Clown Prince of Crime.

In Harley Quinn #25 (2016), it might seem fitting for Harley to retaliate against the Joker by killing him, given their past. Yet surprisingly, when she’s presented with an opportunity, she chooses compassion over vengeance. Instead of shooting him, she administers a beating and keeps him at gunpoint. However, instead of pulling the trigger, she spares his life. This unexpected act of mercy demonstrates that Harley possesses a kindness not commonly associated with her character.

The “Heroes in Crisis” narrative unfolds as a deeply sad tale. Notable characters like Arsenal and Poison Ivy meet their untimely ends at a retreat specifically designed by Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman for supporting the mental well-being of superheroes and villains suffering from PTSD. Post this gruesome incident, Harley Quinn and Booster Gold emerge as the prime suspects in the crime.

Ultimately, it’s unveiled that Wally West was behind the murders, attempting to frame Harley and Booster Gold. Moved by compassion, they choose not to retaliate against him and allow him to escape. Although Harley delivers a knee to his groin, her action showcases a depth of understanding that is not common among many comic book characters, further underscoring her kindness compared to others in the genre.

However, the tables turn as Harley manages to overpower the bounty hunter and holds him back. In this scenario, Harley interacts with Lobo differently than Batman typically does. Unlike Batman, who locks up his defeated foes in hopes of rehabilitation but seldom engages them on a personal level, Harley demonstrates the empathetic nature of a therapist by willingly conversing with others to aid their improvement. This suggests that despite her own troubled past, Harley retains the compassionate and healing mindset of a psychiatrist.

In the sprawling world of DC Comics, I’ve often found myself serving as a guiding light for several impressionable characters. Some of these mentees have taken up the mantle of Robin, while a few have faced heart-wrenching ends.
