7 Agents of SHIELD Characters We Still Need To See in The MCU (#1 is a Must for the Multiverse Saga)

Whether the events of Agents of SHIELD officially fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still a major point of debate. The show started as a direct extension of the movies, beginning with the mystery of how Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) survived after seemingly dying in The Avengers. But as the series went on, its connection to the larger MCU weakened, and it developed its own separate timeline. The movies never referenced the big events that happened on Agents of SHIELD – things like the Inhuman outbreak and nearly destroying Earth – which has left fans frustrated and wondering if the show is truly part of the official MCU story.

There’s good news for fans hoping for connections between Marvel’s older shows and the main MCU! Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming, has officially confirmed that The Defenders Saga fits within the established timeline. This became clear with the return of characters like Kingpin and Daredevil, and was further confirmed by updates to the official MCU timeline on Disney+. Now, with the new Daredevil: Born Again series continuing that storyline, Marvel has shown how previously separate shows can become part of the larger universe. This opens the door for giving the characters from Agents of SHIELD the recognition they deserve, especially with the massive stakes of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies.

7) Bobbi Morse

Bobbi Morse, known as Mockingbird, was a popular character in the comics, so her arrival on Agents of SHIELD was highly anticipated. She quickly became a key member of Coulson’s team, establishing herself as a skilled fighter, particularly with her signature staves, while secretly working to infiltrate Hydra. Her popularity even led to plans for a spin-off show, Marvel’s Most Wanted, starring her and Lance Hunter, though it unfortunately never happened. This left her storyline feeling incomplete. Introducing Bobbi Morse into the wider MCU would both honor the character and allow for a more faithful adaptation of her comic book history, finally exploring her full potential.

6) Mack Mackenzie

Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie, played by Henry Simmons, started as a down-to-earth mechanic who didn’t fully trust SHIELD’s unusual missions. Over time, he became the team’s steady source of moral guidance, keeping his friends grounded with his quiet strength and strong sense of justice. While his unique shotgun-axe made him a powerful fighter, it was his kind heart that truly mattered. Mack eventually rose to become Director of SHIELD, earning the position through his dedication and leadership skills. Now that SHIELD is no longer active in the MCU, a character like Mack – someone with strong values and a level head – is exactly what the universe needs.

5) Melinda May

Melinda May, nicknamed “The Cavalry” and played by Ming-Na Wen, was a highly skilled pilot and martial artist known for her serious demeanor. She was Coulson’s trusted second-in-command and earned her reputation after a significant, though emotionally damaging, event in Bahrain. Over the course of Agents of SHIELD, May gradually became more open with her team, revealing a caring side beneath her tough exterior. She’s arguably one of the most formidable non-powered fighters in the Marvel Universe, able to hold her own against both super-powered individuals and aliens. With Natasha Romanoff gone, May could easily fill a similar role in the MCU as an experienced operative and guide for new heroes.

4) Jemma Simmons

Jemma Simmons, played by Elizabeth Henstridge, is one of the smartest scientists in the Marvel world. As the team’s biochemist, she’s faced incredible challenges, including being stranded on an alien planet and forced into slavery. Even through these traumatic experiences, she’s remained compassionate and endlessly curious. Her intelligence rivals that of brilliant minds like Bruce Banner and Hank Pym, making her a valuable asset to the Avengers and capable of tackling almost any scientific issue. However, her story is most powerfully told through her relationship with Leo Fitz. Their enduring love and the hardships they overcame together were the heart of the show Agents of SHIELD.

3) Ghost Rider

Gabriel Luna’s debut as Robbie Reyes in season four of Agents of SHIELD dramatically shifted the show’s tone, introducing a darker, supernatural horror element to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This take on Ghost Rider was genuinely frightening, fueled by a powerful and vengeful spirit that Luna portrayed with impressive skill. He brilliantly captured the character’s inner pain and torment. With Marvel now exploring more supernatural stories featuring characters like Mephisto and Moon Knight, fans overwhelmingly want to see Ghost Rider return. Bringing back Robbie Reyes would be a huge success, thrilling audiences and showcasing one of Marvel’s most visually spectacular abilities on a larger scale.

2) Quake

Daisy Johnson, who started as a hacker known as Skye and eventually became the superhero Quake, had a remarkable journey in Agents of SHIELD. After learning she was an Inhuman, she developed the ability to control vibrations, letting her create earthquakes and cause massive destruction. Her transformation from a vulnerable orphan to a strong, capable leader was a key part of the show, and she quickly became a beloved character. Since the Inhumans haven’t been fully explored in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing Quake back would be a great way to introduce their story. Plus, her incredible powers would make her a powerful asset to any team of Avengers.

1) Leo Fitz

As a huge fan of Agents of SHIELD, I honestly think Fitz—played brilliantly by Iain De Caestecker—went through the wringer more than almost anyone in the MCU. He started as this sweet, slightly nerdy engineer, and then faced some seriously tough challenges – brain damage, being betrayed, and even having his mind tortured while trapped as a Hydra scientist in a virtual world! Despite everything, he proved he was a total genius, able to figure out any problem thrown his way. But his biggest accomplishment, in my opinion, was in the final season when he actually solved time travel and the multiverse! He created a way to jump between timelines to save the people he loved. With everything happening in the Multiverse Saga now, his knowledge is exactly what the Avengers are going to need to win. He’s the one person from the show who holds all the answers!
