The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is already impressing fans with its powerful dialogue. Although Steve Rogers unexpectedly appears in the first preview without speaking, Thor more than compensates in the second. The clip, set in a strange forest, shows Thor praying to his father, Odin, asking for the strength to overcome a final foe and return to his daughter, Love. Thor’s words hint at just how formidable Doctor Doom will be in this version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is encouraging for a villain with a lot of expectations to meet.
There’s a lot riding on the upcoming Doomsday movie – even more than previous Avengers films. That’s because the first four movies all set a high bar, each offering something special and becoming incredibly important in the superhero genre, with plenty of iconic lines. Here’s a ranking of the seven best quotes from those Avengers films.
7) “You Could Not Live With Your Own Failure. And Where Did That Bring You? Back to Me.”

The Thanos from Earth-616 is remarkably articulate for a Marvel villain, always making sure people understand he believes his actions are logical and well-considered, not the result of madness. Interestingly, the most famous line associated with Thanos actually comes from a different version of him in Avengers: Endgame. After the Avengers reverse Thanos’ snap and bring everyone back, this Thanos confronts Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, criticizing their choices.
6) “We Have a Hulk.”

When Loki arrives on Earth in The Avengers, he immediately looks down on humans, enslaving some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and declaring their weakness. However, this arrogance backfires later when he’s arguing with Tony Stark about who will win their fight. Loki explains why he believes he has the advantage, but Tony quickly shuts him down by reminding him that he’s allies with the incredibly strong Hulk.
5) “That’s America’s Ass.”

Look, the MCU often gets criticized for relying on humor to defuse serious moments, and sometimes that criticism is fair. But when a joke really works, you can see why they keep using them. A perfect example is in Endgame. During the time travel sequence, when the Avengers are facing off against their past selves, Tony Stark makes a quick jab at Steve Rogers’ old suit. But it’s Scott Lang who steals the show, casually referring to Captain America’s backside as “America’s Ass.” The audience loved it the first time, and the filmmakers smartly doubled down on the gag later when Cap defeats his past self and playfully acknowledges his own… assets. It’s a genuinely funny moment that earned its replay.
4) “If We Can’t Protect the Earth, You Can Be Damn Sure We’ll Avenge It.”

Loki has a surprising effect on Tony Stark, bringing out his most determined side. This is evident in a powerful line from their confrontation in The Avengers. After becoming frustrated with Loki, Tony abandons his usual witty persona and delivers a blunt message: even if everything falls apart, he and his team will relentlessly pursue the villain. It seems unlikely that a human would dare tell a god the fight is already decided, but Tony Stark isn’t an ordinary man.
3) “Bring Me Thanos!”

Throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor experiences a lot of heartbreaking losses, including his mother, father, and brother, as well as many friends. All of this bottled-up grief and anger explodes in Avengers: Infinity War when he arrives in Wakanda with his new weapon, Stormbreaker. He single-handedly destroys the monsters attacking the other Avengers and then demands that anyone else still fighting Thanos bring the Mad Titan to him immediately. It’s arguably the most impressive and powerful scene in the entire MCU.
2) “And I Am Iron Man.”

Callbacks are a popular way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to thank its most devoted viewers who follow every film and show. The most memorable one happens in Endgame, right as the final battle is ending. Tony Stark manages to get the Infinity Stones, seemingly defeating Thanos, and prepares to use them to fix everything. Knowing this act will likely cost him his life, he delivers his signature line one last time.
1) “Avengers, Assemble!”

For nearly ten years, the tension between Iron Man and Captain America was a major force in Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. Captain America ultimately had the last word in Endgame by delivering the iconic line, “Avengers, Assemble,” a moment considered the most important in Marvel’s cinematic history. While Avengers: Age of Ultron almost had a similar scene, filmmakers wisely saved it for a more impactful moment. This decision proved to be perfect, as Captain America’s delivery of the line in Endgame was truly epic.
