It’s no surprise that Batman has joined forces with other heroes throughout his time as a crime fighter. As one of DC Comics’ earliest and most popular characters – debuting second only to Superman – Batman initially preferred working solo, or with his trusted partner Robin and his butler, Alfred. However, DC realized the potential of bringing its most powerful heroes together, leading to the creation of the Justice League. Over time, Batman became a member of multiple super teams, despite his initial preference for working alone.
Here is a look at the seven best Batman-related teams in DC Comics.
7) Batmen of All Nations

The concept of a global Batman team actually started in 1955 with “Batmen of All Nations” in Detective Comics #215. This early group featured heroes from around the world who were inspired by Batman and fought crime in their own countries. They were also known as the International Club of Heroes. A later version, created after the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, shifted away from the Batman theme and instead took inspiration from the Justice Society of America.
The team’s original concept was heavily influenced by Batman. When he discovered their existence, he organized a large gathering of his counterparts from across Gotham City. Batman took an active role in mentoring various heroes – he even trained Bat-Hombre from South America, though that hero later turned against him. He also extended invitations to join the group to several new heroes, including the Knight and Squire, the Musketeer, the Gaucho, the Ranger, and the Legionary.
6) The Guild of Detection

The Guild of Detection is a long-standing secret society of heroic detectives – they’ve been around even before Batman! Its members are simply driven to solve mysteries. Hawkman is the Guild’s most veteran member, being the oldest hero within the group. Interestingly, despite its long history, the Guild is a relatively new addition to DC Comics, first appearing in Detective Comics #1000 in 2019.
The team is made up of incredible detectives like Detective Chimp, The Question, Elongated Man, Sue Dibney, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter. Batman joined later, after the others intentionally left a trail of clues for him to follow – that’s how new members are brought on board. Though the Guild of Detection has only appeared twice so far, it’s a group with a lot of potential that deserves more attention in DC Comics.
5) Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights originally focused on the adventures of Batman’s extended family – the heroes who worked alongside him to solve crimes and battle villains. More recently, however, the group has evolved into a more formal and independent organization called the Knights Program, distancing itself from its original connection to Batman and his allies.
This team first appeared in Detective Comics #934 in 2016, but they broke up only two years later in Detective Comics #974. The group consisted of five to ten skilled vigilantes who fought crime with the help of a reformed Clayface.
4) Batman, Inc.

In recent DC Comics storylines, Batman expanded on the concept of international Batmen with ‘Batman, Inc.’ He created a global organization funded by Bruce Wayne, essentially building a worldwide team of crime fighters. Batman personally selected and trained heroes from different countries, requiring them to adhere to his principles before allowing them to protect their homelands.
Batman Inc. first appeared in Batman and Robin #16 in 2011. It included heroes like Dick Grayson as Batman, Damian Wayne as Robin, and Cassandra Cain as Black Bat, as well as international Bat-heroes such as Bat-Man of China, Batman of Japan, El Gaucho, Grey Wolf, Knight/Squire, and Man-of-Bats, among others.
3) Justice League

As a huge Batman fan, I always thought it was cool that the Justice League was his first team! It totally makes sense when you remember why they formed the League in the first place – DC wanted to get all their biggest heroes together in one comic. The original lineup was amazing – Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and of course, Superman. But if you look at the history, it’s always been Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman who really carried the team. They’re known as the Trinity for a reason – they’re the heart of the Justice League!
This team has faced its share of difficulties. Batman’s lack of trust and his secret plans to defeat his own teammates have created problems in the past. The Justice League has also broken Batman’s trust, for example, by erasing his memories of traumatic events involving Sue Dibney and Doctor Light. These conflicts with the JLA ultimately led Batman to form his own, separate team.
2) Batman & The Outsiders

When it comes to organized teams connected to Batman, the Outsiders are arguably the best. They first appeared in 1983 in The Brave and the Bold #200, created because the Justice League wouldn’t rescue Lucius Fox after he was kidnapped while traveling abroad. Frustrated by their refusal to help, Batman left the Justice League and went undercover with Black Lightning to find Lucius himself. During their search, they teamed up with other heroes, and together they became known as Batman and the Outsiders.
The team, known as The Outsiders, featured heroes like Batman, Black Lightning, Katana, Halo, Metamorpho, and Geo-Force. Their original comic book series was a hit, lasting 46 issues and offering a more realistic, flawed take on a superhero team compared to the Justice League at the time. The Outsiders have reappeared in comics since then, sometimes with Batman leading the way, and are consistently enjoyable to read.
1) The Batman Family

The “Batman Family” isn’t a formal team, but a close-knit group of heroes in Gotham who consistently support one another. It’s built around Batman and the people he relies on most – those who remain loyal even when he has his doubts. It began with the original Batman and Robin (Dick Grayson) and has expanded significantly over time.
This includes Batman’s closest allies – like Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Azrael, Batwing, The Signal, Huntress, Clayface, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Alfred, and Commissioner Gordon – anyone who supports him when he needs help. Though they aren’t a formal team, Batman deeply values these individuals – his ‘Batman Family’ – above all else.
