Typically, the Gundam series has been known for its emphasis on complex military tactics rather than individual combat. However, it does feature numerous thrilling one-on-one battles throughout its span. Most of the action, though, resembles warfare more than anything else. In stark contrast to this convention, Mobile Fighter G Gundam shifted the focus dramatically, abandoning war and battles in favor of a storyline that revolves entirely around one-on-one encounters between mobile suit pilots. While most of the franchise delves into the dark themes of war and military corruption, G Gundam offers an entertaining spectacle of excessive fights involving massive robots. Despite their somewhat absurd nature, these battles are hard to forget due to their fun and engaging qualities.
In the animated series G Gundam, numerous memorable confrontations occur, with a majority of episodes showcasing intense close combat scenes. However, some battles can feel repetitive due to the main characters often employing similar moves. Despite this, there are seven extraordinary fights from the anime that truly shine, making the series a must-watch and earning it a spot among the most entertaining Shonen-style mecha series.
7) Shining Gundam vs. Dragon Gundam

In the initial two episodes of G Gundam, the series’ distinctive atmosphere is introduced, detailing the global Gundam Tournament where every nation takes part. The third episode, however, presents the first remarkable fight, showcasing the Dragon Gundam’s unique combat skills against Domon’s Shining Gundam. Utilizing its poles and exceptional agility, the Dragon Gundam manages to hold back the Shining Gundam. This battle underscores Sai, the Dragon Gundam pilot, whose lively character stands in stark contrast to Domon’s more aggressive fighting style. Remarkably, the fight ended inconclusively, with both Gundams almost losing their heads. The electrifying duel between the Shining and Dragon Gundam sets the pace for the rest of the battles featured throughout the series.
6) Rising Gundam vs. Noble Gundam/Walter Gundam

In the Gundam Tournament, there was only one female pilot, which meant there weren’t many opportunities for women to shine. However, during the final Battle Royale, Rain, a female pilot, seized the moment when she took control of the Rising Gundam. She stepped in to aid Domon in this intense battle. Facing off against the Noble Gundam, which had been tainted by the D-Cells from the Dark Gundam (or Devil Gundam), Rain managed to confront it. The Noble Gundam transformed into the Walter Gundam, a mobile suit with a unique spherical shape. The Rising Gundam’s energy bow-and-arrow weapon set it apart and was used creatively throughout the fight. Given that Rain is one of the most compelling characters in the show, it was exciting to see her take center stage.
5) Shining Gundam vs. Gundam Rose

The backdrop heightens the intensity of the duel between Shining Gundam and Gundam Rose. The noble George de Sand controls the graceful Gundam Rose. The series G Gundam explores the theme of Earth’s deterioration due to human pollution, even going so far as to depict Paris being destroyed by relentless mecha battles. One of the show’s most iconic moments is when Gundam Rose prevents the Eiffel Tower from collapsing to save the Princess, emphasizing George’s noble character. The fight also offers an entertaining comparison between its two pilots, as George’s refined and haughty demeanor clashes with Domon’s more aggressive fighting style. Many fans argue that the battle between Shining Gundam and Gundam Rose is one of the most underappreciated in the entire series, often failing to receive the recognition it deserves.
4) Burning Gundam (God Gundam) vs. Dark Gundam (Devil Gundam)

In the heart of the series, the first decisive loss of Devil Gundam marks another standout moment for the show. Yet, the climactic battle against Devil Gundam towards the end is a truly thrilling action sequence. United with their Shuffle Alliance companions, Domon and his team venture deep into Devil Gundam to save Rain. The grand conclusion is as rewarding as it is majestic, as Domon and Rain use their mutual affection to vanquish Devil Gundam forever.
Although some viewers find the ending a bit overly sentimental, the show remains genuinely heartfelt and emotionally charged in its narrative. Domon’s emotional vulnerability throughout the series culminates in him expressing his love for Rain. This theme of love triumphing resonates powerfully, even though it may seem slightly melodramatic at times.
3) Burning Gundam (God Gundam) vs. Master Gundam

In the realm of G Gundam, I found myself repeatedly witnessing Master Asia as a formidable adversary, often locking horns with my comrade Domon, wielding their respective Mobile Suits – the Master Gundam and Burning Gundam. The encounters between these two were always noteworthy, even reaching a point where they engaged in bare-knuckle fights.
However, the climactic showdown at the end of the Battle Royale stands out as the most indelible confrontation between them. In true G Gundam fashion, this final battle was a spectacular display of melodramatic action combined with raw emotion, featuring both Mobile Suits transforming into gold and battling amidst a whirling tornado.
Yet, what truly makes this encounter memorable is the emotional release it provided, as Domon, in a poignant moment, surpassed his master’s teachings, marking a significant milestone in their rivalry.
2) Dragon Gundam & Bolt Gundam vs. Soaring Raven Gundam (Gundam Heaven’s Sword)

In the concluding portion of the anime series, G Gundam, the championship rounds are set, introducing a fresh batch of antagonists known as the Four Heavenly Kings. Throughout these final rounds, Domon and his Shuffle Alliance comrades go head-to-head with them. The climactic Battle Royale ensues, where the surviving Gundam pilots engage in a fierce free-for-all. During this chaos, Sai Saici, piloting the Dragon Gundam, and Argo, operating the Bolt Gundam, rescue Domon from the clutches of one of the Heavenly Kings, who wields the Soaring Raven Gundam (Gundam Heaven’s Sword).
Among the intense clashes against the Heavenly Kings during the Battle Royale, the duel with Heaven’s Sword stood out as the most spectacular. The Dragon and Bolt Gundam worked harmoniously, and the music beautifully emphasized the battle’s majestic atmosphere. The strategic use of gold and red in the fight enhanced the tension, making the scene even more dramatic. Despite its brevity, it left a lasting impression, amplifying the importance of the encounter.
1) Burning Gundam (God Gundam) vs. Dragon Gundam

Leading up to the grand finale, Battle Royale, I witnessed Domon engaging in a series of battles against his fellow Shuffle Alliance members. Each duel was remarkable in its unique way, but none compared to the epic clash between the Burning Gundam and the Dragon Gundam. The Dragon Gundam has long been cherished by fans as one of the most iconic mechas from G Gundam. Its flag poles and dragon claw abilities set it apart from other Gundams. Moreover, Sai Saici, the pilot of the Dragon Gundam, is a character that leaves an indelible impression on viewers.
In their initial battle, Domon’s encounter with the Dragon Gundam in his Shining Gundam resulted in an unforgettable standoff between the two titans. The sequel fight between Domon and Sai was highly anticipated, with both characters eager to showcase their skills. Domon acknowledges Sai as a friend and often refers to him as “bro.” When they clash, it’s one of the most thrilling sequences in the series. The animation and combat choreography are exceptional, with Sai’s new signature move stealing the show during their duel. Additionally, the golden radiance that envelops a large portion of the battle adds to its intensity and underscores the passion inherent in G Gundam. In essence, the fight between the Burning Gundam and Dragon Gundam encapsulates the essence of G Gundam, with its grandiose battles fueled by enthusiasm.
