7 Best HBO Max Shows to Binge Right Now (Nov 2025)

With the holidays just around the corner, HBO Max has a fantastic selection of TV shows covering all sorts of genres. They’ve got award-winning comedies, realistic medical dramas, returning series you’ll love, and exciting new releases. If you’re not sure what to watch this fall, we’ve put together a list of seven must-see HBO shows to help you decide.

7) Peacemaker

Okay, so I just finished binging the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker, and it’s still as hilariously messed up as the first! John Cena is fantastic as Christopher Smith, this deeply flawed guy who genuinely thinks he’s doing good, even if his methods involve… a lot of fatalities. This season picks up after Gunn’s Superman movie and throws Peacemaker for a loop – he discovers a reality where he’s actually a good guy, which is… a trip. The whole cast is back – Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee are all great – and Frank Grillo joins the fun as Rick Flag Sr., a character you might recognize from the Creature Commandos animated series. Seriously, both seasons are streaming now, and if you like your superhero stories with a healthy dose of dark comedy and over-the-top violence, you need to check this out.

James Gunn recently shared with Entertainment Weekly that Peacemaker has become a more complex character since Season 1, when he was largely unlikeable. Despite this growth and added vulnerability, the show still delivers its signature blend of raunchy humor and action. Season 2 has been widely praised, earning a 95% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating it’s even stronger than the first season.

6) IT: Welcome to Derry

The new prequel to the It movies is now available, with the first episodes streaming now. Set in 1962 in the town of Derry, the show delves into the history of the evil force at the heart of Stephen King’s stories, taking place decades before the events experienced by the “Losers Club.” Bill Skarsgård is back to terrify audiences as Pennywise the Clown.

Created by Andy Muschietti, his sister Barbara, and writer Jason Fuchs, the series features Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and Taylour Paige as townspeople dealing with the fallout from a missing boy. Welcome to Derry is planned as a three-season show, set in 1962, 1935, and 1908, and aims to expand on the history of the terrifying creature from Stephen King’s stories. Now is the perfect time to get invested!

5) Hacks

Now’s a great time to discover or revisit Hacks, the critically acclaimed comedy starring Jean Smart, which finished its fourth season in April. Created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, the show centers on Deborah Vance, a celebrated Las Vegas comedian, and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), her young writer. Their complicated relationship, full of both humor and heartache, forms the heart of the series, which offers a sharp and honest look at Hollywood and the challenges of connecting across generations.

Okay, so as a huge TV fan, let me tell you, Hacks is a serious awards magnet! Jean Smart has absolutely crushed it, winning four Emmys in a row, plus three SAG Awards and two Golden Globes. Deborah Einbinder snagged an Emmy in 2025 too, which was awesome. And the show itself? It’s won an Emmy for Best Comedy Series and a Golden Globe for Best TV Series. They’ve already given us four amazing seasons, and they’re making a fifth to wrap things up, so there’s a ton of great content to catch up on before it ends!

4) I Love LA

Rachel Sennott’s new HBO comedy finally arrived on November 2nd, making it a great time to start watching! Sennott, known for her roles in Shiva Baby and Bodies Bodies Bodies, created, wrote, and stars in the series, which centers on a group of close, but overly dependent, friends as they try to achieve their dreams in California. The show also features Odessa A’zion, Jordan Firstman, True Whitaker, and Josh Hutcherson (from The Hunger Games). Critics are calling it a clever and insightful comedy about what it’s like to be part of Gen Z.

HBO is focusing on shows created by individual artists, and I Love LA is the latest example, following the successful runs of Barry and Curb Your Enthusiasm. New episodes are released each week, with the season ending on December 21st, so it’s a great time to start watching before everyone else is discussing it!

3) The Pitt

HBO’s medical drama, starring Noah Wyle, was a hit in its first season and has been renewed for a second. The show, called The Pitt, follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch during a challenging 15-hour shift in a Pittsburgh hospital’s emergency room, with each episode taking place in roughly real-time. Created by R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells – both known for their work on ER – the series provides a realistic portrayal of the fast-paced world of emergency medicine.

I’m so impressed with this show’s cast! Alongside the incredible main actors, you’ve got Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez playing the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff. It’s amazing how they tackle really important issues like the opioid crisis and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. And it’s not just compelling storytelling – critics love it too! It boasts a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has already won five Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, plus acting awards for Wyle and LaNasa. I’m already counting down the days until Season 2 premieres on Independence Day, January 8, 2026!

2) The Chair Company

HBO Max’s new series, The Chair Company, is already generating a lot of buzz, and it’s only halfway through its first season. Created by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin – the minds behind the comedy sketch show I Think You Should Leave – the show follows William Ronald Trosper (played by Robinson) as he stumbles upon a huge conspiracy after a humiliating accident at work involving a broken chair.

This series, from Adam McKay, is both delightful and ridiculous, hilarious and unsettling. It skillfully blends workplace comedy with a compelling mystery, finding both humor and heart in the lives of everyday people. New episodes are released weekly until November 30th, giving you a chance to watch some now and still have more to look forward to.

1) Task

The must-watch show of the moment is Brad Ingelsby’s intense crime drama, now available to stream all seven episodes at once. Mark Ruffalo plays Tom Brandis, an FBI agent with a past as a priest, tasked with stopping a series of dangerous robberies. The robber, Robbie Prendergrast, played by Tom Pelphrey, seems like an ordinary dad and sanitation worker, but leads a double life targeting drug houses. The series is set and authentically portrays Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and dives into the difficult choices and struggles of working-class people.

The new HBO series Task, created and written by Ingelsby (known for Mare of Easttown), is quickly becoming a success. Mark Ruffalo and Jovan Adepo have received high praise for their strong performances as the show’s two leads, whose characters brilliantly contrast each other. If you enjoyed True Detective or are looking for a gripping, standalone crime thriller to binge-watch, Task is a must-see.
