7 Best New Marvel Supervillains of the Past 5 Years

The Marvel Universe is always growing, with new characters and stories appearing regularly. As the universe expands, so does the list of villains. Even though we’re only partway through the 2020s, several new supervillains have already become memorable thanks to their unique looks, personalities, histories, and powers. These villains have driven some of the most exciting recent Marvel stories and have proven to be powerful and challenging opponents for Marvel’s most beloved heroes.

Whether they’re brilliant inventors or terrifying creatures, these new Marvel villains are quickly becoming some of the most powerful and threatening characters around.

7) Hag

Sarah Gaunt, also known as the Hag, is a frightening new X-Men villain who first appeared in 2024. She’s a former lover of Professor X with a deep hatred for mutants. After her son tragically died in a hurricane, she developed powerful, dark magic that turned her into a monstrous creature with incredibly sharp claws. Working for Graymalkin Prison, the Hag relentlessly hunts and captures young mutants, especially the Outliers and members of the X-Men. She’s a formidable opponent, even managing to defeat Wolverine and Rogue by drawing power from nature. Because of her connection to Professor X and her dangerous abilities, the Hag is likely to return and cause more trouble for the X-Men.

6) Bedlam

In 2021, Venom (Eddie Brock) encountered a dangerous future version of himself named Bedlam, who embodies his inner anger. Bedlam came to be after villains stole Eddie’s memories, turning him back into a villain. This memory loss caused Eddie’s mind to split. When trapped in a time loop by a villain named Meridius, Bedlam began attacking other versions of Eddie, believing that by pushing them to their limits, they could defeat Meridius. Bedlam is one of the most powerful and brutal Symbiotes in the Marvel Universe, capable of controlling other Symbiotes with his mind and even traveling through time to take over different hosts.

5) Rabble

Raneem Rashad, who goes by the name Rabble, first appeared in 2022 and quickly became one of Miles Morales’s greatest enemies. Like Miles, Raneem was a candidate for a spot at Brooklyn Missions Academy, and she was furious when she didn’t win. This resentment turned into an obsession with Miles, and after discovering he was Spider-Man, she used her incredible intelligence and ability to control technology to create a powerful suit of armor, a glider, and an army of drones – all with the goal of killing him. Believing she deserved the opportunity Miles received, Rabble has made it her mission to destroy his life. She’s a particularly vengeful villain, and she’s gone so far as to target Miles’ family and team up with other notorious New York villains like Hobgoblin to make his life miserable.

4) Tarn

Following the creation of the mutant nation of Krakoa, the X-Men learned in 2020 about another mutant country called Arakko. These mutants had been exiled to a different dimension for millennia, but eventually escaped and attempted to conquer Krakoa. Among Arakko’s leaders, Tarn the Uncaring stands out as exceptionally dangerous and cruel. As a powerful Omega-Level mutant, Tarn can alter DNA – even his own – to increase his strength. He can also enhance, weaken, or horribly mutilate others. Tarn’s brutality has resulted in the torture and death of countless mutants. Though Krakoa and Arakko ultimately reached a truce, Tarn remained a constant threat, always striving for greater power.

3) Eldest

The Eldest, a terrifying creature inspired by Lovecraftian horror, first appeared in 2023. As the oldest child of the monstrous Mother of Horrors, its goal is to conquer all realities. After being imprisoned by a supreme being, the Mother of Horrors, the Eldest spent countless ages searching for a way to break her free. Unable to exist in a stable physical form, the Eldest possesses different bodies, always looking for someone strong enough – specifically, someone with gamma-based powers – to release her mother. She eventually took control of the Hulk, and after freeing the Mother of Horrors only to find her incapacitated, the Eldest consumed her mother’s essence, gaining immense and godlike power. Now a horrifying, master manipulator with no limits, the Eldest is considered one of Marvel’s most frightening villains in recent years.

2) Feilong

Kelvin Heng, also known as Feilong, is a powerful villain who has clashed with both Iron Man and the X-Men. First appearing in 2021, Feilong was born to mutant parents but didn’t develop mutant abilities himself, leading to a deep hatred of mutants. As a wealthy tech CEO and the leader of the anti-mutant organization Orchis, he used his fortune to conquer Phobos, a moon of Mars. To withstand Phobos’ harsh environment, Feilong modified his body, granting him the power to unleash devastating energy blasts. He also cleverly took control of Iron Man’s company, Stark Unlimited, and used its technology to build an army of Sentinels designed to eliminate all mutants on Earth. Driven by pride and jealousy, Feilong has become a formidable enemy for Marvel’s heroes.

1) Genesis

Apocalypse is a legendary villain in the X-Men universe, and his wife, Genesis, was introduced in 2020. She’s an incredibly powerful mutant – an Omega-Level mutant, in fact – with the ability to control all plant life. Dating back to Ancient Egypt, Genesis is the mother of Apocalypse’s original four Horsemen. Long ago, during a battle with demons, she became separated from Apocalypse and trapped in another dimension with other Arakko mutants. As their leader, she ruled them until they were freed and attempted to take over Krakoa. A fierce warrior who believes peace is a sign of weakness, Genesis shares a strong bond with Apocalypse and played a key role as a villain in both the ‘X of Swords’ and ‘Genesis War’ storylines.
