7 Best Spider-Man Movie Costumes, Ranked By Comics Accuracy

Spider-Man has had a lot of different costumes throughout the Marvel movies. As one of Marvel’s most famous characters, he’s constantly evolving in both the comics and on screen. The live-action films have showcased many of these changes in his appearance, with fans closely examining each costume – from simple, inexpensive designs to truly groundbreaking ones.

It’s tough to say which Spider-Man movie costumes are the best – everyone has their favorites! But it’s easier to point out the least accurate ones, since we can directly compare them to how Spider-Man looks in the comics. We’ve revisited some of the most popular movie costumes and ranked them based on how closely they match their comic book counterparts.

7) The MCU Stark Suit – Captain America: Civil War (2016)

The first Spider-Man costume in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, created by Tony Stark, is instantly recognizable. While it initially appears faithful to the comic book version, a closer look reveals some key differences. The suit has a very small spider emblem, and its advanced technology actually makes it one of the least accurate designs seen in the movies when compared to its comic book counterpart.

6) Iron Spider Suit – Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

As a big Spider-Man fan, I always thought the Iron Spider suit in the MCU movies looked amazing! But it’s interesting to learn that the suit from Infinity War and No Way Home isn’t a perfect copy of the comic book version. It seems the designers took inspiration from a few different comic suits and even added that classic blue Spider-Man pattern to the red and gold design. It’s a cool mix that makes it instantly recognizable, even if it’s not 100% true to the source material.

5) Peter Parker’s Homemade Suit  – Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

While Spider-Man: Homecoming heavily showcased Spider-Man’s high-tech suit created by Tony Stark, the movie also included a costume Peter Parker made himself. Though it doesn’t perfectly match Spider-Man’s classic comic book appearance, it’s actually inspired by the Scarlet Spider suit worn by the character Ben Reilly. The homemade suit is nearly identical to the clone’s look, but with the colors reversed – red and blue swapped – which makes it surprisingly closer to the comics than some of Spider-Man’s other movie outfits.

4) Black Symbiote Suit – Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Okay, let’s talk about Spider-Man 3. It’s often cited as a low point for the franchise, but I have to say, the black symbiote suit is a real highlight. It’s surprisingly faithful to the comic books, especially considering it had to fit within the established look of Sam Raimi’s earlier films. They made a few smart changes – adding a web pattern and darkening the spider symbol – but overall, it’s a really solid visual interpretation of that iconic suit. It’s one of the few things the movie really got right.

3) Tobey Maguire’s Suit – Spider-Man (2002)

The suit Spider-Man wore in his first movie is now one of his most recognizable looks. Featured prominently in Sam Raimi’s 2002 Spider-Man and its two sequels, the suit stands out with its bold web design and dark blue coloring on the legs and sides. Though not a perfect copy of the comic book version, the design captures the character’s essence and has a very stylish look.

2) The New MCU Suit – Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

The new Spider-Man suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is remarkably faithful to the classic comic book design, but so far, audiences have only seen it for a few moments. Revealed as Spider-Man’s suit for future MCU films, it’s more colorful and streamlined than previous versions, suggesting a greater emphasis on comic book accuracy for the character going forward.

1) Andrew Garfield’s Second Spider-Man Suit – The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man suit in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a big improvement over his original costume, mainly because it removes the strange yellow eyes. The design is much sleeker and is the most faithful to the comic books of any Spider-Man movie suit so far. The perfect color scheme and consistent web pattern, combined with Garfield’s athletic physique – which closely matches how Spider-Man is typically drawn in the comics – make it look fantastic. It’s the most comic book-like Spider-Man suit ever seen in a live-action film.
