With the emergence of the All-Encompassing Cosmos and his rise as King Omega, Darkseid has grown virtually unbeatable. Realizing that only equal power can subdue him, the heroes of the DC Universe contemplate elevating one among them to become a King Omega themselves. The epic battle is known as DC K.O., where we witness a no-rules fighting tournament featuring thirty-two of DC’s most powerful characters, aiming to collect as much Omega Energy as possible through fierce and relentless combat. This spectacle brings to life every kid’s imagination, assembling their beloved action figures for a grand battle; so why not join in the excitement? Here are seven heroes that I believe deserve a place in DC’s inaugural tournament, vying for the title of the mightiest among them all.
7) Bronze Tiger
Among perhaps three characters, Bronze Tiger earns a strong case for the title of the world’s top fighter. His best friends include Richard Dragon, and he once trained Cassandra Cain (Batgirl), demonstrating his exceptional abilities. His criminal record is impressive enough to validate his skills. He served as one of the most formidable warriors for the League of Assassins for years and managed to escape Ra’s al Ghul, a feat achieved only by those who couldn’t be defeated by him. He has also engaged in numerous battles with Batman, with the Caped Crusader often needing to employ unconventional tactics due to his inability to defeat Bronze Tiger in one-on-one combat. The Dark Knight himself acknowledges this fact. Throughout his career, he has displayed qualities of both a hero and a villain, witnessing both goodness and evil within people’s hearts. This makes him an excellent contender for generating Omega Energy, which requires ruthlessness and inflicting pain, skills in which he is well-versed due to extensive experience.
6) Plastic Man
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, if there was an entry in the dictionary for “the underestimated powerhouse character,” it would undeniably be Plastic Man. While you might not initially envision that limitless elasticity could yield so much potential, it truly does. He boasts full autonomy over each of his cells, enabling him to morph into any size or shape at will, and even transform his body into materials like Kryptonite. But what sets Plastic Man apart is his indomitable durability. Essentially unkillable, this fellow survived after being dismembered into countless pieces during the “The Obsidian Age” JLA storyline, persisting as a disembodied consciousness on the ocean floor for an astounding 3,000 years. Plastic Man’s primary constraint lies in his imagination, since he can transform into anything he conceives. We seldom get to witness him fully unleash his might, but this tournament provides us with a golden opportunity to see him employ all the remarkable abilities we know he possesses. Frankly, I wouldn’t fancy seeing him ascend as King Omega, but I am eager to watch him lock horns with some of DC’s most formidable fighters.
5) The Spectre
The Spectre is often depicted as God’s avenger, a powerful angel who punishes wrongdoers and enforces justice. Darkseid, the evil deity, bound himself to the Spectre when he created the Absolute Universe using a special machine called the Miracle Machine. Separating them led to Darkseid’s demise and ascension for the Spectre. Perhaps feeling remorseful for not preventing Darkseid, the Spectre seeks redemption by taking on the role of King Omega to defeat him permanently. If he were to compete in a tournament, his immense power would undoubtedly make him a formidable contender, possibly the strongest among them. The issue wouldn’t be whether the Spectre could win but rather how anyone else could stop him from doing so, which is both intimidating and impressive. The Spectre would not only showcase his immense power but also present a challenge for other heroes to overcome, demonstrating their creativity and determination against an invincible force.
4) Batgirl
In terms of martial arts competitions, my mind instantly conjures images of the world’s elite combatants. Among them, Cassandra Cain stands out as one of the most formidable fighters, a distinction that becomes increasingly evident day by day. Not many can match her skill level, even Lady Shiva, her mother, often finds herself on the losing end in a fair contest against Cassandra. The Bat Family themselves are cautious about crossing her, which speaks volumes given their penchant for confrontation.
Cassandra’s unique ability lies in her understanding of body language that surpasses others; she can read and respond to her opponents in ways no one else can. This skill grants her an edge in anticipating her adversaries’ moves and identifying their vulnerabilities. Essentially, her movements serve as a conversation, and fighting is the dialogue.
In addition to being a peerless fighter, Cassandra possesses a remarkable compassion that sets her apart within the DC Universe. While she adheres to a strict no-kill policy, which may even be more stringent than Batman’s, she also possesses an intimate understanding of human darkness. This combination makes her an ideal candidate to wield the power of Omega Energy and uphold her heroic persona.
3) Superboy-Prime
Mr. Prime Time, previously reimagined as Clark Kent’s alter ego, has made a comeback and is now more heroic than ever before. For an extended period, this version of Superboy-Prime was one of DC Comics’ most formidable villains, but he underwent a transformation during the “Dark Knights: Death Metal” event. Although it appeared that he had disappeared altogether at the conclusion of the story, Mr. Prime Time has resurfaced and is once again prepared to wage battles in defense of all that is right. If you’re unfamiliar with Superboy-Prime’s strength, envision Superman performing feats from the Silver Age, then amp up their intensity slightly – you’ll have a good idea of Prime’s raw power. Throughout his career, he has faced off against the entire Justice League and emerged victorious, single-handedly taking on most of the Green Lantern Corps in hand-to-hand combat, and even striking with such force that he distorted reality itself. In my opinion, the Retcon Punch remains one of the coolest moves I’ve ever seen. Given his incredible abilities, Superboy-Prime certainly deserves a place in this competition. Since they’ve recently revived him, it would be a missed opportunity not to see him defend his title again!
2) Blue Beetle
I’m referring to Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, rather than Jaime Reyes, who I’d also like to see shine brighter. Unlike other characters in this list, Ted doesn’t have any obvious advantages. He’s not as physically powerful or skilful as others. Despite his intelligence, there are heroes with greater intellect and more advanced technology than him. In theory, everything Ted can do could be done better by someone else. However, what makes Ted unique is his motivation.
Booster Gold, Ted’s best friend, was captured and tortured by Darkseid’s Legion for months, gaining massive amounts of Omega Energy as he crossed through the barrier. Ted has the opportunity to rescue Booster and seek revenge for his suffering, but also to claim the Omega Energy that makes Booster a target for the evil plans of the Legion.
Blue Beetle would be fighting beings akin to gods who should be unbeatable, but his determination to stand up for his friend would symbolize the ultimate act of heroism – doing anything for those you care about. This is what being a hero truly represents.
1) Mister Miracle
Scott Free, son of Highfather, the leader of the New Gods, was exchanged to Darkseid as a child under a peace treaty. For years, Darkseid subjected Scott to torture, yet he persisted in fighting back and finding ways to escape. Eventually, he managed to flee to Earth. Known as Mister Miracle, he’s renowned for his incredible ability to escape any predicament. Yet, despite his new life on Earth, he can’t forget his harrowing past.
Darkseid’s evil is deeply ingrained in Scott’s memory more than anyone else in the universe. One wonders if Scott would willingly allow another to bear a similar fate. Above all, Scott yearns for freedom from Apokolips and a peaceful life with his wife and daughter. However, unless they put an end to Darkseid now, no one will ever be safe again.
It’s clear that nobody understands this better than Mister Miracle. Given this, it’s not hard to imagine him taking up the fight to free himself from Darkseid once and for all, to escape his clutches completely by becoming even more powerful than he ever was. While Darkseid exists, Scott strives to become Mister Miracle, a beacon of hope in the face of evil.
