7 Comic Book Heroes Not From Marvel & DC Who Could Beat Homelander, Ranked By How Easy It Would Be

Homelander, from The Boys, has quickly become a famous supervillain. Originally created by the Vought corporation, he was presented as the leader of the Seven and the world’s greatest hero. However, like other Vought-created heroes, he’s actually a dangerous and monstrous figure. Both the TV show and comic book versions of Homelander possess powers similar to Superman – including super strength, invulnerability, heat vision, flight, and enhanced senses – and he has no hesitation in using them. He’s incredibly powerful, and even some iconic heroes from Marvel and DC would struggle to defeat him.

While Marvel and DC are known for their strong heroes, independent comics have created some incredibly powerful characters – a few even rivaling or surpassing those from the big two. Homelander (nicknamed ‘Butcher’s Omlanda’ in the show) is certainly strong, but several indie heroes could easily defeat him. Here are seven who would utterly dominate Homelander, with some making the fight look effortless.

7) Radiant Black

Radiant Black is a standout superhero comic, launching a completely original universe at Image Comics. While several characters have taken on the name, they all share similar abilities centered around controlling gravity. In a fight, Radiant Black and Homelander would likely be evenly matched in terms of strength and toughness. However, Black’s control over gravity would give him a significant advantage, and he could defeat Homelander if he chose to, though he might wait until the battle had gone on for a while.

6) Black Hammer

Black Hammer is a critically acclaimed indie superhero comic, and its main character would easily defeat Homelander. While three people have held the title of Black Hammer, only the last two are central to the story. Joe Weber inherited the hammer from the original Black Hammer, gaining incredible powers and becoming a legendary hero. Notably, he defeated the Anti-God – a villain similar to Darkseid or Thanos – suggesting Homelander wouldn’t pose much of a challenge. Weber is both stronger and more powerful and could defeat Vought’s champion with several well-placed hammer blows.

5) Nexus

Created by Mike Baron and Steve Rude, Nexus is a powerful character with over 200 issues, but he’s largely unknown to today’s comic book fans. Nexus is actually Horatio Hellpop, granted the ability to manipulate stellar energy – called “fusion-kasting” – by a cosmic entity named Merk. This gives him incredible powers, including energy blasts, super strength, flight, and the ability to withstand almost any attack. I’m confident Nexus would defeat Homelander; harnessing the power of stars gives him a clear advantage that Homelander simply couldn’t overcome.

4) Supreme

Rob Liefeld created a huge number of characters for Marvel and later, independent comics. His Extreme Studios label at Image Comics launched many new heroes, some inspired by classic characters from Marvel and DC. One of these, Supreme, was essentially Liefeld’s take on Superman, and many fans believe he’d easily defeat Homelander. Alan Moore reimagined Supreme as a version of the pre-Crisis Superman in the 1990s, and a reprint of that run would showcase just how much more powerful he is than Homelander – it wouldn’t even be a close fight.

3) Solar, Man of the Atom

Solar, a comic book hero, first appeared in 1962 and was clearly inspired by Captain Atom. While the original series ran until 1969, a revival in the early 1980s didn’t last long. In the early 1990s, Valiant Comics bought the rights to Solar and made him the central, most powerful character in their universe. He’s incredibly powerful – on par with heroes like Doctor Manhattan or Captain Atom, essentially a god-like being. In a fight against Homelander, Solar would easily win, capable of disintegrating him at any moment.

2) Spawn

It was really tough deciding between Spawn and Nexus for the number two spot. They’re both incredibly powerful, and I honestly think it’s a tie as to who would win against Homelander. Over the years, Spawn’s magical abilities have let him do almost anything, even change reality itself – I still remember him creating Strawberry Ripple wine out of thin air for Cogliostro early in the series! Homelander might land a few hits, but Spawn is a much more skilled fighter and significantly more powerful, making this a pretty clear win for him.

1) Invincible

The comic Invincible features many incredibly strong characters, and several could easily defeat Homelander. Especially Invincible himself – any Viltrumite would win, but Invincible is on another level. He’s beaten the strongest of his own people, growing more powerful through years of intense fighting. Compared to Invincible, Homelander’s strength and resilience are weak. Though Invincible doesn’t have powers to alter reality, he could defeat Homelander with a single, powerful punch, even while holding back – his first attack would likely be fatal.
