One of the main reasons Star Wars remains so popular is its grand story of a fight for freedom against a ruthless empire. Beyond the compelling characters and stories, each new installment introduces unique and fascinating ships that enrich the Star Wars universe. While ships like the Millennium Falcon, TIE fighters, and Boba Fett’s ship have become iconic, newer additions to the Star Wars fleet haven’t received the same level of recognition.
Despite its flaws, the sequel trilogy introduced a lot of memorable ships. These vessels, often with distinctive First Order designs and a range of sizes, stand out. Some, like the Quadjumper, are amusing due to their quirky appearance and rundown condition, and several ships from this period are even more striking than those from earlier eras.
7) The Finalizer
This Star Destroyer is among the most fearsome ships in the series. Its massive size and impressive arsenal of over 1,500 weapons make it incredibly powerful. Adding to its imposing presence, it was originally constructed as an act of rebellion against the Galactic Concordance.
The Finalizer is introduced in The Force Awakens, and quickly becomes a tool for Kylo Ren and General Hux to capture members of the Resistance. This ship immediately establishes the stakes of the entire trilogy, signaling a new war with a technologically superior enemy determined to instill fear and cause destruction.
6) TIE Silencer
In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren gets a new, custom starfighter called the TIE Silencer. It’s built like Darth Vader’s old TIE Advanced X1, but with improved stealth capabilities, making it an even more fearsome ship.
Kylo Ren’s personal starfighter, the Silencer, is heavily armed and incredibly powerful. It showcases this strength in a thrilling scene from The Last Jedi, where Kylo swiftly destroys the Raddus hangar and defeats multiple X-wing pilots using its onboard missiles and weapons.
Kylo Ren didn’t destroy the Raddus because he felt his mother was on board. Although his ship, the Silencer, was powerful enough to obliterate it and everyone inside, he held back once he sensed her presence.
5) Upsilon-Class Command Shuttle
It’s no surprise that Kylo Ren’s command shuttle is sleek and modern. This Upsilon Class shuttle first appears in The Force Awakens during the battle over Jakku.
This ship was built for fast and efficient transport of Kylo and other key personnel between the Finalizer and planetary surfaces. It’s visually striking, with unique folding wings and an impressive landing silhouette. The ship looks fantastic on screen, and its landing shots have become iconic.
4) MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 (Resistance Bomber)
The Resistance Bomber makes its first appearance during the opening battle in The Last Jedi. This ship is easily recognized thanks to its powerful bombing capabilities and its resemblance to real-world warplanes.
The Resistance Bomber’s design is a deliberate nod to the B-7 bombers used by Allied forces in World War II, mirroring the Resistance’s ongoing fight. Initially, the ship was going to be called the T-Wing due to its wingshape, but the writers ultimately chose a name that better suited its history and purpose.
3) Quadjumper
Though quickly destroyed in The Force Awakens, the Quadjumper remains a memorable ship. It was designed to move trash around space stations, using magnets to attach to containers and thrusters for fast transport.
In The Force Awakens, the Quadjumper provided a bit of humor. Rey and Finn initially planned to use the small, two-person vehicle to escape Jakku, but it was quickly destroyed. This setback unexpectedly led them to the Millennium Falcon, changing the course of the story.
2) The Supremacy
In The Last Jedi, the massive starship The Supremacy served as the headquarters for Supreme Leader Snoke. Its enormous size symbolized Snoke’s overwhelming ambition and desire for control.
From space, the Supremacy is an impressive sight. It’s best remembered for the battle where Vice Admiral Holdo sacrificed herself, crashing the Raddus into the Supremacy at light speed. This daring act allowed the remaining crew to escape and continue fighting the First Order.
1) Sith Eternal Fleet (Exegol Star Destroyers)
While The Rise of Skywalker isn’t the most beloved film in the sequel trilogy, it did give us the Sith Eternal Fleet – a truly frightening and impressive collection of ships that stood out in the Star Wars franchise.
These powerful warships are designed to obliterate planets. They look eerily identical, making them both unsettling and hard to forget. The sight of them rising from the ice on Exegol is truly chilling. During combat, they fly up in a precise, straight line, making it incredibly hard for the Resistance to defend against their assault.
