7 DC Comics You Don’t Want to Miss This Month (April 2026)

2026 is already proving to be a fantastic year for DC Comics, building on the success of 2025. With the finale of DC K.O. and the launch of DC Next Level, there’s a lot to look forward to. April alone is packed with exciting new miniseries, surprising twists, and even a long-awaited issue of Swamp Thing that fans have been hoping for.

I often talk about how much I enjoy DC Comics, and April looks like a particularly great month for them! They’re even releasing a special issue of MAD Magazine dedicated to DC – I was surprised MAD was still being published, but it’s fun to see them playfully poke fun at DC. Plus, several new titles are launching as part of the DC Next Level program, including the highly awaited Zatanna series. There’s a lot coming out, so keep reading to find out which books you absolutely shouldn’t miss!

7. Bizarro: Year None #1

Kevin Smith and Eric Carrasco are creating a definitive origin story for Superman’s classic reverse counterpart, Bizarro. The first issue, Bizarro: Year None #1, follows Jimmy Olsen and Perry White as they journey to Bizarro’s home planet and uncover the villain’s hidden past. As a big Bizarro fan, the author admits to being very excited – and ironically expresses that excitement using Bizarro’s distinctive speech pattern.

6. MAD About DC #1

April is shaping up to be a great month for funny books! Chip Zdarsky leads the charge with MAD About DC #1, a special oversized issue of MAD magazine packed with over 60 pages of comedy. It features new comic strips from legendary artist Sergio Aragonés, plus contributions from popular writers and artists like Matt Fraction, Steve Lieber, and Gail Simone. As a longtime fan of both MAD and DC Comics, I can’t wait to see these creators put their own spin on things in this sure-to-be-hilarious release.

5. Zatanna #1

Enjoyed Zatanna’s recent limited series? Great news! DC’s most powerful magic user is back in a new, ongoing comic! Jamal Campbell is both writing and illustrating this series, which sees Zatanna taking on the huge responsibility of being the Prime Magus – essentially, the person in charge of all magic in the DC Universe. It’s a bold concept, and fans have been eager for Zatanna’s return. Campbell is sure to deliver a captivating story!

4. Absolute Superman #18

As a huge comic book fan, I’m really enjoying Absolute Superman – it’s already hit issue eighteen! Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval are doing fantastic work, and this new arc, “Reign of the Superman,” looks incredible. We just met this world’s Hawkman, but get this – we’re getting two more reimagined characters introduced. Seeing that lightning bolt on the cover, I’m pretty sure we’re going to see both Shazam and Black Adam. If that happens, things are about to get shaken up – the power dynamics in this universe could seriously shift!

3. The Fury of Firestorm #1

As a huge comic book fan, I’m really excited about April’s releases! It’s not just Zatanna making a splash – Firestorm is coming back with his own ongoing series, which hasn’t happened in ages! The creative team of Jeff Lemire and Rafael De Latorre is fantastic, and they’re tackling the Ronnie Raymond version of the character. Everything I’ve heard suggests this will be a really atmospheric, mysterious story, and honestly, that’s exactly what Lemire does best. I’ve got a strong feeling about this one, and I’m thrilled DC is shining a spotlight on characters who deserve more attention.

2. Swamp Thing 1989 #1

Almost forty years after Rick Veitch’s run on Swamp Thing was cut short, the unfinished issues are finally being completed! DC Comics is actually going to publish Veitch’s intended ending to the series. The story will send Swamp Thing back in time for an encounter with a very famous religious figure. It’s hard to predict where this will go, but it’s exciting to see a creator’s vision fully realized, and I’m eager to see how this series unfolds.

1. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50

It’s impressive how long the Batman/Superman: World’s Finest comic has lasted, as many don’t reach this point. The 50th issue arrives in April, and DC is celebrating in a big way! It will be an extra-long issue featuring both the Superman and Batman families, and it will also bring back artist Dan Mora, who was key to launching the series four years ago. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what creators Mark Waid and Dan Mora have in store.
