7 DC Villains More Powerful Than Darkseid, Ranked

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always been fascinated by DC’s villains, and Darkseid really stands out. Jack Kirby, who created him back in the Silver and Bronze Ages of comics, wanted to create the ultimate embodiment of evil – he called Darkseid the ‘tiger force at the center of all things’. Knowing Kirby’s history, it’s clear Darkseid was his way of visually representing the evil he saw in fascism and especially Nazism. What’s really cool is that Darkseid isn’t just powerful physically; he’s supposed to represent the darkness within all of us. Over the years, he’s only gotten more powerful in the comics, and a lot of fans, myself included, consider him the biggest, baddest villain in the entire multiverse.

Darkseid is incredibly strong in DC K.O., even building his own universe. But despite his power, he isn’t the most dangerous villain in the DC Multiverse. There are seven even more powerful villains who completely outclass him.

7) Neron

Whether Neron could beat Darkseid is up for discussion, but I believe Neron would win. He first appeared in the 1990s DC event Underworld Unleashed as a demon capable of amplifying villains’ powers. Like many powerful angelic beings, Neron can significantly alter reality. When considering their power levels, it’s important to remember that the Silver City and Hell existed before the Fourth World, meaning beings from that era – even those like Neron – are generally more powerful. As a Lord of Hell, Neron is far more powerful than typical demons or angels. While Darkseid might stand a chance outside of Hell, Neron is unbeatable in his own realm.

6) Yuga Khan

Darkseid rules the Fourth World as a powerful villain, but his father, Yuga Khan, was actually even stronger. A key idea in Jack Kirby’s stories is that each generation of gods becomes weaker. So, while Darkseid killed his father, it wasn’t due to greater strength – he was simply more cunning. In a direct fight, Yuga Khan would easily defeat Darkseid. Darkseid is a more effective evil god, but Khan possessed far more raw power.

5) Lucifer Morningstar

If I’m including Neron on this list, I also have to include his creator, Lucifer Morningstar. Lucifer is the second most powerful being in existence, surpassed only by God. He used to be God’s most trusted advisor and was incredibly powerful, even helping to plan creation itself. It’s surprising that no one in the DC Universe has suggested Darkseid is actually a reflection of Lucifer – powered by the original sinner and essentially an extension of the being who was darkness before everything else. Darkseid is strong, but he’s still not as powerful as Lucifer Morningstar.

4) The Anti-Life Entity

Darkseid was obsessed with the Anti-Life Equation and constantly tried to unlock its secrets. This experimentation eventually resulted in the creation of the Anti-Life Entity, a being of immense power. Realizing he couldn’t control or absorb its power alone, Darkseid reluctantly teamed up with heroes from both Earth and New Genesis. The Anti-Life Entity threatened total destruction, and Darkseid understood he could never subdue it without help. It took the combined strength of both good and evil forces to contain the entity.

3) The Anti-Monitor

The story Crisis on Infinite Earths is truly remarkable. It was an incredibly ambitious event – arguably the biggest comic book storyline ever – and it required a villain of immense power to match the stakes of combining four different universes. The Anti-Monitor perfectly fit that role. As the embodiment of anti-matter, he consumed universes, leaving nothing but destruction behind. Even Darkseid, a powerful being himself, wisely avoided a direct confrontation, recognizing the Anti-Monitor’s overwhelming power. While Darkseid managed to briefly wound him in Crisis on Infinite Earths #12 using his Omega Effect, a one-on-one fight would have been a guaranteed loss. The fact that even the New 52 version of Darkseid fell victim to the Anti-Monitor and Grail’s plans further confirms just how powerful the Anti-Monitor truly was.

2) Perpetua

DC Comics features incredibly powerful characters, and Perpetua stands out as arguably the most powerful of them all. As one of the Hands – beings who create entire multiverses – she’s far beyond the power of even Darkseid, whom she actually created. Perpetua can essentially will anything into existence and has direct access to the Source of all power. She’s the mother of the Anti-Monitor, and even surpasses his immense power. Darkseid, never one to back down from a fight, clearly recognized Perpetua’s superiority and avoided confronting her, which speaks volumes about the gap in their power levels. She’s on a completely different scale than even the formidable ruler of Apokolips.

1) The Great Darkness

When The Great Darkness first appeared in Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing (specifically the story “American Gothic,” which is considered a masterpiece), it wasn’t a being with intentions. It was simply the inevitable end of everything, an ever-growing emptiness that will ultimately consume all existence – though its advance could be slowed. It wasn’t until the 2020s that it began to be understood as an actual entity, revealed as the force driving evil across the multiverse. Even then, it wasn’t intelligent; it just relentlessly moved forward, and was used as a tool by Pariah in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. Pariah intended to destroy everything with The Great Darkness and then rebuild reality using the released energy. Despite its lack of intelligence, it was established as a powerful entity – far more powerful than Darkseid, because at its core, it’s literally nothingness.
