7 Dead MCU Characters That Should Be Brought Back

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have gone through many heart-wrenching character deaths, and it’s only natural for them to want these fallen heroes and villains back in action. Iconic characters like Tony Stark (Iron Man), Natasha Romanoff (Black Wwidow), and T’Challa (Black Panther) left a significant impact on the MCU, and their return would undoubtedly be a spectacle. However, not every character’s resurrection might be ideal for the storyline. Apart from the well-known characters, several supporting personas have met untimely ends or were underutilized. In a universe that accommodates magic, superpowers, and multiple realities, death isn’t always final. Therefore, it’s possible that some of the MCU’s most regrettable deaths could be undone.

It’s worth considering that these seven Marvel Cinematic Universe characters had such potential for further development, and there’s a possibility they might be brought back to life to rectify their storylines.

1) Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver

In his first appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver (portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) met an unexpected demise. Introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he was Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) brother and boasted incredible speed abilities, making him one of the most thrilling heroes to witness in battle scenes. However, Quicksilver’s premature demise during the Battle of Sokovia leaves a lingering impact on his legacy. The MCU’s version of Pietro is not resurrectable, but a similar character could potentially factor into Wanda’s narrative either soon or later down the line. It’s unfortunate that Pietro didn’t get a full-fledged story arc within the MCU, but there’s room for him to reemerge in some capacity. Fans were disheartened by Quicksilver’s swift passing, so there’s strong motivation for his return — even if it’s just a brief appearance.

2) Hela

Ragnarok, aiming to seize Asgard after the death of Odin. However, during the events of Ragnarok, Hela perished at the hands of Surtur when Asgard was destroyed. The movie served its purpose for Hela’s storyline, but it might be interesting to explore her character further in a different setting. The MCU could enhance Thor’s part of the universe by exploring his history with Hela more deeply. Additionally, Hela could prove to be a challenging opponent for other strong heroes in the MCU. Since gods are immortal, the MCU could devise a storyline loophole to explain how Hela survived Ragnarok.

3) Ikaris

The movie Eternals surprised viewers when it was revealed that Ikaris (Richard Madden), initially portrayed as a hero, transformed into an antagonist intent on destroying Earth and all its inhabitants for the emergence of Tiamut. Despite his efforts, Ikaris failed and ultimately ended his life by flying into the Sun. The underwhelming response to Eternals may mean we won’t see the Eternal group again in the MCU, but if they do return, it would be fitting for Ikaris to rejoin them. Since the Eternals are artificial beings, they could potentially be recreated by the Celestials, meaning Ikaris’ death is not necessarily permanent. Known for his impressive flight abilities and laser-vision powers, Ikaris was a formidable force in combat. On a more personal note, Ikaris had a complex yet heartwarming relationship with Sersi (Gemma Chan), which could be further developed if the characters reappear in the MCU.

4) Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch

In the climax of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” it seemed as though Wanda met her demise when she caused Mount Wundagore to collapse upon herself. Yet, given that no body was found and the Scarlet Witch’s nearly indestructible nature were key factors, it’s doubtful she’s truly gone. With fans eagerly anticipating more of Wanda’s MCU journey, which has been marked by loss, trauma, and a shift from hero to villain, her complex character deserves a prominent place in the MCU’s future. Her rich comic background with characters like Doctor Doom and the X-Men offers numerous opportunities for her return. The MCU should act swiftly to bring Wanda back to the silver screen before it misses out on leveraging her widespread appeal.

5) Gorr the God Butcher

In “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the character of Gorr the God Butcher, portrayed by Christian Bale, was unfortunately underutilized and didn’t receive the screen time he deserved. Driven to avenge his daughter’s death by seeking revenge against the gods, Gorr met his end in the film due to the power of the Necrosword. However, upon reaching Eternity, Gorr made a wish to bring his daughter back to life, which could potentially pave the way for his resurrection at some point in the future.

Gorr was a complex and compelling villain who deserved more opportunities to showcase his depth. His dark and brooding persona seemed out of place against the film’s lighthearted comedic tone. Casting an acclaimed actor like Bale to play such a menacing character suggested great things for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the script fell short in fully realizing this potential.

If Gorr were to return in future installments, it could be in the form of a redemption arc or a new crusade against the gods. The possibilities are intriguing and it’s unfortunate that his character was wasted in “Thor: Love and Thunder.

6) Agatha Harkness

It wasn’t widely expected that Agatha Harkness (portrayed by Kathryn Hahn), when she debuted in WandaVision, would become a significant character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, her solo series Agatha All Along transformed her from an antagonist into a complex protagonist, displaying both wicked and comical traits as well as eliciting sympathy. Consequently, it seemed rather hasty to end Agatha’s character at the conclusion of her own show. While her sacrifice for Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) and reconciliation with her former lover Rio Vidal/Death (Aubrey) was fitting in certain aspects, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have expanded her storyline across more than just two projects.

It seems that Agatha’s role as Billy’s ghost mentor in the story feels more like a humorous element than a fulfilling resolution. Even though Agatha’s spirit was introduced from the comics, the MCU could have crafted a fresh narrative for her character on screen. From Agatha’s long-standing romance with Death to her magic-stealing exploits, there are countless opportunities to explore Agatha’s future that don’t require her to be a teenage boy’s ghostly companion. Given the MCU’s history of characters returning from death, it would be ideal for them to bring Agatha back to life as soon as possible and continue her story in a more substantial manner.

7) Taskmaster

In a surprising twist during her debut in “Black Widow”, Antonia Drekov/Taskmaster seemed destined for a significant run within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the unexpected occurred in “Thunderbolts”. Minutes after her appearance, Taskmaster met an untimely end due to a fatal gunshot wound from Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), leaving fans disappointed and questioning this drastic deviation from the comics. It could be more satisfying for future projects to reveal that Taskmaster’s mask deflected the bullet, saving her life, and allowing her to escape before the vault was consumed by flames. Alternatively, the MCU might introduce a new, more faithful adaptation of the character from the comics. In any case, Taskmaster remains a crucial figure who should reappear in the MCU, given her diverse abilities that could make her an intriguing villain or anti-hero with immense potential.
