Following the success of 2020’s Bad Boys for Life, the filmmakers faced a setback when their nearly finished DC film, Batgirl, was unexpectedly canceled. They quickly rebounded with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, bringing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back for another popular action-comedy. Now, the directing team is launching 7 Dogs, a new film promising the same fun, action-packed buddy-cop energy, but this time outside of the Bad Boys franchise.
The film 7 Dogs, based on a story by Turki Alalshikh and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, features Karim Abdel Aziz (known for The Blue Elephant, Escaping Tel Aviv, and Kira & El Gin) and Ahmed Ezz (Kira & El Gin, The Cell, The Passage) in leading roles. The cast also includes international stars like Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded), Salman Khan (Sultan), Sanjay Dutt (Vaastav: The Reality), and Max Huang (Mortal Kombat).
At $40 million, the action movie 7 Dogs is Saudi Arabia’s biggest locally-made film since cinemas reopened in 2017. The film has already attracted interest from Black Bear Pictures in the US, with a planned release in 2026. 7 Dogs features Ahmed Ezz as Interpol officer Khalid Al-Azzazi, who arrests Ghali Abu Dawood (played by Karim Abdel Aziz), a key figure in the international criminal organization known as 7 Dogs. A year later, the criminal group reappears, now dealing a dangerous new drug called Pink Lady throughout the Middle East. With the situation becoming urgent, Khalid is forced to team up with Ghali, who knows the group’s inner workings better than anyone. This unlikely partnership sends them on a dangerous journey through cities around the world, as they race to destroy the organization and stop the drug from spreading across Arab communities.
The latest trailer suggests this film will deliver the same exciting and dynamic action as Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s work on the Bad Boys movies. It promises a grand adventure filled with engaging characters, and a central duo who are both heroic and hilariously at odds with each other.
The cancellation of Batgirl was likely a huge disappointment for directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
