The horror series The Conjuring has officially concluded with the release of its latest film, Last Rites. Despite rumors of a possible continuation, director Michael Chaves has confirmed that this will be the final installment.
Even though the main Conjuring storyline might be concluding, the broader universe of stories isn’t necessarily over. Several successful spin-off films already exist, and Warner Bros. has hinted at even more projects in the future, potentially signaling a second phase for the franchise.
We don’t know exactly what’s next for this series, but if the upcoming films are similar to the first ones, fans can anticipate seeing many familiar and memorable villains and spirits from the Conjuring universe get their own dedicated stories. With Ed and Lorraine Warren no longer investigating, these spinoffs have the potential to be even scarier than the original movies.
7. The Bride
The Bride made a quick appearance in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, but wasn’t a major part of the film. After the movie came out, Warner Bros. started thinking about the future of the series, and the character’s name came up frequently in early talks and rumors.
James Wan often talks about wanting to develop detailed histories for all characters in the Conjuring universe, even minor ones, and The Bride is a perfect example. Because we know so little about her, filmmakers have a lot of freedom to create her story, which is exciting for both them and the audience.
Gary Dauberman, who directed Annabelle Comes Home, told Inverse he has a lot of detailed history written about the character of The Bride. He specifically described how the dress itself seems to haunt anyone who owns it, and believes this could make a compelling story.
I think the idea has potential, honestly. But my big worry is that we barely know anything about the Bride yet. It’s tough to get people excited about a spin-off when they don’t have a connection to the character already. We’ve seen it work with something like The Nun, sure, but with the Conjuring universe wrapping up, this feels like a much bigger gamble.
6. Annabelle 4
While there hasn’t been an official announcement about Annabelle 4, it seems like a smart move to continue the series with this well-known character. After Last Rites seemed to conclude the story, bringing back Annabelle is a relatively safe bet to attract viewers, especially considering the success of the earlier films.
While the Conjuring series will eventually explore new directions, now isn’t the time. Annabelle is a proven success for Warner Bros., and it’s been six years since the last film. If they have a compelling story, Annabelle 4 could be just what the franchise needs to continue.
5. The Crooked Man
For years, The Crooked Man has been the Conjuring universe spinoff fans have been waiting for. The character first appeared in The Conjuring 2 and a movie about him was planned, but Warner Bros. decided to focus on continuing the main Conjuring films instead, so the project was put on hold.
Not much is known about the Crooked Man character, but director James Wan has often described wanting to create a scary, old-fashioned horror film that would delve into his backstory and reasons for doing what he does. While the character made a big impact when he first appeared, plans for a sequel focusing on the mysterious Crooked Man never materialized.
Now that the Conjuring series has concluded, Warner Bros. has a great chance to focus on this spinoff and give the Crooked Man the dedicated story fans have been waiting for. After nearly ten years of delays and cancellations, it would be incredibly satisfying to see this rumored project finally become a reality.
4. The Nun III
The Nun films really set the standard for how successful the Conjuring spin-offs have become. Though the Nun wasn’t a major character in The Conjuring 2, the filmmakers recognized her potential and developed her into one of the franchise’s most memorable villains.
The future of the series is uncertain, but bringing back the Nun character is a really promising idea. It would likely be a successful movie in terms of ticket sales, as the first Nun film had the biggest opening weekend of any movie in the franchise and remains one of the highest-grossing films in the Conjuring universe (according to Box Office Mojo).
3. The Samurai
Rather than constantly revisiting old characters and stories from past Conjuring films, the franchise could move forward with a fresh start – a “Phase 2” – and introduce a new set of characters and storylines. While still acknowledging the previous movies, James Wan could also experiment with different genres and filmmaking styles.
A spinoff focusing on The Samurai would be a great fit. This project has been talked about for years and would reveal the history of the haunted samurai armor currently held in the Warrens’ collection.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Dauberman revealed he and Wan had talked about making a slasher movie centered around a Samurai. This would be a big departure from the other Conjuring spin-offs, and the start of “Phase 2” feels like the right time to try something new. It could revitalize the franchise and attract fans who enjoy that kind of horror.
2. The Revenge Of La Llorona
As a big fan of The Conjuring universe, I’m really excited about The Revenge of La Llorona. It’s one of the few sequels they’ve already greenlit as they move into what they’re calling ‘Phase Two,’ and I think it could be a major win for Warner Bros. The first La Llorona film didn’t quite perform as well at the box office as the studio expected, but I have a feeling the sequel will definitely turn things around.
Fans of the Conjuring universe are hoping for a new, standalone horror story now that the main series is finished, and The Revenge of La Llorona could be just that. This spin-off doesn’t rely heavily on connections to the original Conjuring films, and that’s perfectly fine – it allows it to stand on its own.
In October 2025, Warner Bros. announced a new film called The Revenge of La Llorona, coming just weeks after The Conjuring: Last Rites hit theaters. Santiago Menghini is set to direct, with Sean Tretta writing the script. The movie will star Monica Raymund, Jay Hernandez, and Raymond Cruz.
1. The Conjuring Prequel
After the news that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga wouldn’t be returning for future films after Last Rites, fans wondered if the Conjuring series would continue. A prequel would give the franchise a way to move forward without needing those two actors to reprise their roles.
The long-awaited prequel to The Conjuring is reportedly causing issues between Warner Bros. and James Wan. According to Puck News, Warner Bros. still plans to make the spinoff, but disagreements about creative direction and how much to pay those involved mean it might happen without Wan, who created the original series.
This setback is disappointing, but a prequel to The Conjuring would still be a fantastic way to keep the series going and explore Ed and Lorraine Warren’s story with a new cast. It will take some work to finalize the plans, but this seems like a logical and positive direction for the franchise.
