The Mortal Kombat II movie introduced popular characters like Johnny Cage and Kitana, and even brought some deceased fighters back to life. However, many characters from the video games haven’t appeared in the recent films, despite having great potential. We’re highlighting 7 of these missing characters and explaining why they would be a perfect fit for future installments like Mortal Kombat III and beyond.
7. Darrius

Darrius is a compelling character who first appeared in Mortal Kombat Deception, the sixth installment of the series. He portrays himself as a champion of freedom to gain support, but his ruthless tactics frequently cross the line, making him more of a villain than a hero.
Okay, so when it comes to action, Darrius is seriously cool. He’s incredibly fast and strong – honestly, his strength really stands out, even when he’s fighting some really tough opponents. He can shoot things, sure, but what he really does well is kick – some seriously devastating kicks! He’s got a good uppercut too. He’s a fun character overall, but if I’m being honest, his personal story isn’t quite as captivating as some of the others I’ve seen.
6. Nightwolf

Nightwolf first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 and is a fierce Native American warrior and shaman. He’s dangerous with a tomahawk, but also possesses strong magical abilities.
I generally like how Mortal Kombat 11 presented Nightwolf. It established ‘Nightwolf’ as a title inherited by members of the Matoka Tribe. This also explains why each Nightwolf possesses a unique set of skills and powers, and allows them to connect with the memories and experiences of previous Nightwolfs.
5. Sheeva

Sheeva is a powerful contender for the upcoming tournament. As a member of the Shokan race, she possesses the typical Shokan traits: four arms and tough, dragon-like scales. She can attack with fireballs and powerful stomps, but her most dangerous move is likely a crushing bear hug combined with a flurry of punches.
Sheeva’s backstory is quite complex. Though often allied with Shao Kahn, she’s willing to fight alongside the heroes if it benefits her people, the Shokan. She even ruled as Queen of the Shokan at one point, giving filmmakers several potential storylines to explore in a future movie.
4. Cyrax

Cyrax, the cybernetic assassin, is a compelling character with a striking look and a backstory that could work well in a film or show. He was originally a member of the Lin Kuei clan, alongside Sub-Zero. However, the clan’s decision to transform all its members into cyborgs led Sub-Zero to leave, creating a dramatic conflict that also defines Cyrax’s story, though details vary across different versions.
Cyrax was originally converted into a cyborg, but later recovered their personality and joined forces with the good guys. While similar cyborg warriors existed in the past, they were different characters. Now, in this new version of events, the female Cyrax possesses all of their powers. Whether they choose to focus on the original or the new version, Cyrax’s interesting history and relationships with other characters make them an ideal candidate for a future installment.
3. Erron Black

Erron Black is a fantastic recent addition to the Mortal Kombat series, first appearing in Mortal Kombat X. He gained a form of immortality through a deal with Shang Tsung and has lived for roughly 150 years. This long life gives him a lot of experience, which explains his skill with many different weapons.
Erron Black isn’t about superpowers or futuristic weapons; he relies on classic firearms and blades, which makes him a really enjoyable character to play. He’s different from most of the other fighters, especially with unique moves like his ‘Money Shot’ – bouncing a bullet off a coin to strike his opponent. With so much potential, fans hope to see Erron Black make his first appearance in a future Mortal Kombat movie, perhaps Mortal Kombat III.
2. Shinnok

Shinnok, now considered one of the most formidable characters in the Mortal Kombat universe, originally appeared in the spin-off game Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Since then, he’s become a central villain throughout the series.
Shinnok, who rules the Netherrealm and is the son of a Titan, is one of the most powerful characters in the Mortal Kombat universe. The games show Raiden defeating him by beheading him, and a fight between those two would be amazing to see in a movie. Hopefully, the films will eventually show this iconic battle, and it could fit perfectly into a Mortal Kombat III adaptation.
1. Ermac

Ermac first appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and is known as one of the series’ most enigmatic characters. He’s actually formed from the combined souls of warriors killed in Outworld, all bound and controlled by Shao Khan. Ermac is also a very powerful fighter, with abilities like telekinesis, teleportation, levitation, energy blasts, and the power to launch soul-based projectiles.
Depending on the story, Ermac could break free from Shao Kahn’s control and fight alongside the heroes. However, no matter what, Ermac is always focused on protecting Outworld. Exploring this in a future Mortal Kombat III could be really exciting, leading to fantastic fights and a strong storyline. It remains to be seen if the developers will choose this path, but it has a lot of potential.
Mortal Kombat II is in theaters now.
