Spider-Man is Marvel’s biggest star, but fans often feel disappointed with how his stories are handled. This frustration began nearly two decades ago when Marvel decided to end Spider-Man’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson in a way many considered poorly executed. Since then, Peter Parker has had a string of unsuccessful relationships, and Marvel has repeatedly stated the marriage won’t be restored. Surprisingly, despite being such a prominent hero, Spider-Man hasn’t often been shown dating other superheroes.
Considering all the characters in the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man has plenty of potential romantic interests. Since Marvel doesn’t seem interested in revisiting his marriage, they could explore relationships with other heroes or even villains. Here are seven Marvel characters who would make good partners for Spider-Man, offering alternatives to Mary Jane.
7) Elektra

Okay, so everyone knows Elektra mostly as Daredevil’s ex, and honestly, it wasn’t a healthy dynamic. She always seemed to be in his shadow, and let’s face it, he wasn’t exactly faithful! I think she deserves a chance to really shine on her own, and I’ve been thinking… a pairing with Spider-Man could be amazing. They both get what it means to carry a huge responsibility, and they’re both incredibly resilient. Sure, their approaches to doing what’s right are different – that could create some really compelling conflict! I don’t know if it would be a forever kind of romance, but as a story arc, it would be a blast to watch unfold.
6) Typhoid Mary

Typhoid Mary has a significant history with Daredevil and some experience with Spider-Man, making her a compelling character. She’s a mutant with both telekinetic and fire-based powers, and suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder – essentially, she has a good side and several villainous personalities. There’s already a spark of attraction between them, which could be a great starting point for a storyline. Perhaps Spider-Man could try to guide her towards doing good, and they could fall in love along the way. Her complex personality would make for interesting stories, and it would be fun to see how far Spider-Man would go to help her. Given her long history working for the Kingpin, bringing him back into Spider-Man’s world could also create some exciting new plotlines.
5) Human Torch

The Human Torch, known for his energetic personality and adventures with the Fantastic Four, shares a strong, playful friendship with Spider-Man. Many fans have observed their close connection and believe a romantic relationship between them would be a great fit. Given that Marvel has historically avoided portraying Spider-Man as anything other than straight, some feel it’s time to reconsider that stance. These two heroes clearly have a wonderful dynamic, and seeing them as a couple would be exciting for many readers.
4) Crystal

The Inhumans are currently struggling, and one way to revitalize them could be through a relationship between Crystal and Spider-Man. Crystal, Medusa’s sister, has a history with other heroes like the Human Torch and Quicksilver. While Spider-Man hasn’t often interacted with the Inhumans, a connection between them could be interesting. They’d make a great couple both personally and as a superhero team, and this pairing might bring the Inhumans back into the spotlight while creating exciting new stories.
3) Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is a complex character, and her past relationships with other heroes have likely contributed to that. Wanda Maximoff has often been seen through the lens of her romantic connections, and pairing her with a widely popular hero like Spider-Man could reinforce that pattern. However, this pairing could also be a positive step for her character development. Spider-Man is generally portrayed as a caring and supportive figure, which might be exactly what Scarlet Witch needs. While they haven’t interacted much so far, that could easily change. I believe a relationship between them has a lot of potential and could lead to some interesting storylines for both characters.
2) Magik

The New Mutants featured a lot of great characters, and many fans consider Magik to be the best. Illyana Rasputin has become a key figure among the X-Men – she’s a powerful mutant with magical abilities and a bit of a rebellious streak. That’s why a romance between her and Spider-Man would be so interesting. While it probably wouldn’t be a lasting relationship, it would be fun to see how these two very different personalities would interact as a couple. Magik is already quite popular, and pairing her with Spider-Man could really boost her profile even further.
1) The Wasp

The Wasp is a truly valuable hero who doesn’t get enough recognition. As one of the original Avengers and a frequent team leader, she’s far more capable than people realize. Giving Janet Van Dyne more spotlight, perhaps alongside another hero with a similar theme, could be a great way to highlight her strengths. Both characters have their struggles, and a relationship between them could be incredibly beneficial, allowing them to develop and evolve in exciting directions. It feels like a pairing with real potential for a long and meaningful connection.
