There are numerous Marvel Comics superheroes that could make fantastic live-action films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Characters from Marvel were being adapted for live-action as early as the 1940s Captain America series, with Howard the Duck in 1986 marking the first feature film based on Marvel Comics. Since then, many incredible comic characters have had their movies made, but some of Marvel’s best remain underexplored.
It’s been a joy watching characters like Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and many others shine on screen. The potential for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is immense as we approach the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. After this, Marvel Studios might explore fresh areas in Phases 7 and beyond. This opens up a chance for additional fantastic superheroes from Marvel Comics to make their debut or return to live action in the MCU for the first time.
7) Eric Brooks’ Blade
1998’s “Blade”, 2002’s “Blade II”, and 2004’s “Blade: Trinity” introduced the character of Blade, portrayed by Wesley Snipes, but a fresh, contemporary take on this character is needed to separate him from his previous underwhelming outings and elevate him further. Mahershala Ali was announced as the MCU’s Blade in 2019, yet the development of a reboot has faced challenges. However, there’s optimism that the MCU’s “Blade” reboot is now on track, paving the way for Eric Brooks to finally star in a quality film within this series, introducing Blade, vampires, Dracula, and other elements into the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe.
6) Brian Braddock’s Captain Britain
As a die-hard film enthusiast who adores all things Marvel, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the possibility of Brian Braddock gracing the big screen for quite some time now. And with Phase 7 on the horizon, it seems like the ideal moment to introduce this iconic character as Captain Britain. Following the epic saga of Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is rumored to be delving deeper into mutant characters, which could pave the way for Betsy Braddock’s Psylocke and other British superheroes to make their debut. As a British counterpart to Captain America, Captain Britain boasts a rich universe with immense cinematic potential, making it an exhilarating prospect to finally bring Brian Braddock and his fellow UK-based heroes into the MCU through a standalone movie. It would be nothing short of breathtaking!
5) Ororo Munroe’s Storm
A key figure among the X-Men, Storm, has had a lengthy stint in the X-Men series produced by 20th Century Fox. Notably played by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp, Storm was a consistent presence in the franchise. Despite her crucial role and immense power within Marvel’s mutant tales, she never received a standalone film. Given her rich background linked with the Wakandans and Black Panther (T’Challa), Storm holds enough weight to headline her own movie. It would be wonderful if Marvel Studios could offer the weather-controlling superhero the screen time she deserves, showcasing her story in all its glory.
4) Wendell Vaughn’s Quasar
Given the uncertain future of the Guardians of the Galaxy within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and potential delays in the Nova project, it’s advantageous for Marvel to introduce more interstellar heroes into live-action storytelling. Wendell Vaughn’s character, Quasar, is an ideal candidate due to his connection to the Quantum Bands, which were recently introduced in shows like ‘Ms. Marvel’ and ‘The Marvels.’ The Quantum Bands provide Quasar with extraordinary cosmic energy control and teleportation capabilities that would lend themselves well to visually engaging films. Moreover, Quasar could serve as a key link between the cosmic realm and the more Earth-bound narratives in the MCU.
3) Johnny Bart’s Rawhide Kid
In the 1950s, the character known as The Rawhide Kid made his debut in comics published by Atlas Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. He was then reintroduced in the 17th issue of “Rawhide Kid” comic series in the 1960s, portraying a quiet and self-assured gunslinger who embarked on exciting journeys across the Old West. Over the years, this character, named Johnny Bart, has been featured in several time travel stories. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) heroes having already traveled through time in films like “Avengers: Endgame” and subsequent ventures to different eras, there is now an ideal chance for The Rawhide Kid to make his live-action debut in the MCU.
2) Doreen Green’s Squirrel Girl
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast who adores all things Marvel, it’s mind-boggling to me that Squirrel Girl, despite being one of their quirkiest characters, remains unadapted for live-action. While her powers might seem peculiar – think squirrel-like physical traits and the ability to chat with rodents – she’s undeniably a fan favorite. Remember Milana Vayntrub as Doreen Green in the Marvel Television pilot that never saw the light of day? It’s about time Squirrel Girl got her own MCU movie.
Her origin story, which remains unconfirmed, revolves around her squirrel-like abilities. Yet, she stands among Marvel’s strongest heroes, having been part of various Avengers teams throughout the years. It’s high time she found a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1) Norrin Radd’s Silver Surfer
In the upcoming “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” we’ll encounter a new take on the Silver Surfer from another dimension, portrayed by Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal. This paves the way for the potential introduction of Norrin Radd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previously, the Silver Surfer was depicted in live-action in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” but this new version could offer a more refined portrayal. Norrin Radd is a significant character from Marvel Comics whose storylines have yet to be fully explored on-screen, so fans are eagerly anticipating his potential appearance alongside Ralph Ineson’s Galactus in future MCU stories involving the Fantastic Four.
