7 More Horror Movies to Watch After Final Destination Bloodlines

The movie “Final Destination: Bloodlines” turned out to be one of the most successful films during the summer movie season of 2025, and its popularity continues to grow on HBO Max. Even when considering inflation, “Bloodlines” holds the title as the highest-grossing film in the “Final Destination” series, which is quite impressive for a sixth installment in a franchise. While it’s true that horror movies are currently quite popular at the box office, “Bloodlines” stands out with its strong performances, intricately designed deaths, and characters who are engaging more often than not.

In summary, it’s hard to deny that Bloodlines stands out as the most impactful among all the films in the series. After viewing it, you might find yourself craving for more. Here are some suggestions for a thrilling double feature night. These include a film directed by the same creative duo, other installments from the same franchise, and even a Stephen King adaptation that shares similarities in extended death scenes and a dark, witty sense of humor dripping with blood.

7) Freaks (2018)

Moving away from the 1932 film titled “Freaks”, this story centers around Chloe, a young girl who has been confined within her home by her father, Henry. He constantly warns of dangerous men, which in reality refers to the Abnormal Defense Force (ADF), a government unit that targets civilians with unique abilities. When Chloe discovers she can influence people’s minds and Henry can manipulate time, they soon find out that the ADF would also pursue her due to her powers. Chloe occasionally experiences visions of a woman being kept in a confined space. As it turns out, this woman is her mother, Mary. Alongside her father and grandfather (Bruce Dern), Chloe embarks on a daring mission to infiltrate the government facility where her mother is held captive, with the aim of rescuing her.

As a movie enthusiast, gazing upon the poster for “Freaks,” I initially thought it was a chilling horror film, much like “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” However, it offers more than just thrilling moments; it’s a superior interpretation of Stephen King’s “Firestarter” compared to any previous adaptations. Directed by the talented duo, Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, who also excelled in “Bloodlines,” this film truly shines because of Lexy Kolker’s outstanding performance as Chloe. Her work is nothing short of phenomenal.

6) It Follows

The original movie “It Follows” is set to have a follow-up, given its impressive box office success (earning 23 times its budget), dedicated fan base, positive critical reception, and the rise of Maika Monroe as a star. The upcoming sequel, titled “They Follow“, promises to be exceptional. However, even without a continuation, this film could stand independently on its own merits.

David Robert Mitchell’s film centers around a compelling theme: an ominous presence chases an individual after they’ve lost their virginity. This presence disguises itself as an ordinary person who moves deliberately towards the victim. However, this seemingly harmless figure is relentless, indestructible, and persistently advances. In many ways, it recalls Death from the Final Destination series. Despite their tonal differences, they share enough common ground to make them a fitting pair for a double feature night.

5) Night of the Living Dead (1990)

Among the top-notch horror series films from the ’90s, Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead is often overlooked due to its strong resemblance to the original. However, given how exceptional George A. Romero’s version was, a near-identical remake is perfectly acceptable.

There’s rumor of a director’s cut version, closer to Savini’s original vision for his unique take on the first zombie masterpiece, making its way to fans soon. Even without that cut, this version offers a lighthearted, enjoyable horror experience. Notably, it features Tony Todd as Ben, marking his initial foray into the horror genre before his iconic role in Candyman. Although Todd has more upcoming projects posthumously, Bloodlines is likely to be remembered fondly by fans as a farewell to the actor in the genre. So, why not start and end your journey through Todd’s early horror career with this film?

4) The Cabin in the Woods

Similar to “Final Destination,” “The Cabin in the Woods” follows a group of individuals whose destiny seems beyond their control. However, unlike the former, where characters’ last moments are intricately planned by Death, in this film, these final moments result from deliberate human manipulation rather than part of a complex design by Death.

This film, titled “The Cabin in the Woods,” delivers unexpected twists that impressively succeed. Watching it on the big screen in 2012 was a blast, and I’m pleased to say it remains engaging even today. It shares a dark, yet somewhat light-hearted humor with the “Final Destination” series, particularly noticeable during the scenes featuring Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford’s characters.

In comparison to the “Final Destination” franchise as a whole, “Bloodlines,” which is more closely linked to “The Cabin in the Woods,” boasts a collection of central characters that are generally well-liked. Much like these characters from “The Cabin in the Woods,” Kristen Connolly’s Dana, Jesse Williams’ Holden, Chris Hemsworth’s Curt, Anna Hutchison’s Jules, and Frank Kranz’s Marty are all endearing, making their eventual demise difficult to bear.

3) Candyman (1992)

As a devoted horror enthusiast, I must admit that there are numerous movies in this genre that, despite their potential, fail to ignite a franchise. However, an exception to this rule is the iconic horror film, Candyman, which managed to spawn a series, even when it seemed unlikely. While Nia DaCosta’s 2021 reboot-sequel was undeniably strong, the original Candyman 3: Day of the Dead falls short in many aspects. Yet, whenever Tony Todd graces the screen with his captivating performance, the movie is elevated to a whole new level, even though such instances are regrettably few and far between.

Todd’s versatility is such that he could convincingly portray characters ranging from an excessive mercenary in “The Rock” to a ruthless sidekick for a gangster in “The Crow”. However, it’s within the horror genre where his performances have left an indelible mark. A significant part of this association stems from his role as Daniel Robitaille (Candyman) in the film of the same name. But what truly solidified his presence in the horror genre was his extensive involvement with the “Final Destination” series. He played the enigmatic William Bludworth across five films (first, second, fifth, and sixth), and made a vocal appearance as an animated devil in the third installment. Essentially, Todd was the core of “Final Destination”, and his absence was deeply felt within the horror community.

2) The Monkey

If you’re searching for a movie that shares many similarities with “Final Destination,” consider “The Monkey.” In essence, both stories revolve around a cursed toy chimp with drums, and like a chain of tragic events being averted in “Final Destination,” these films are about characters trying to escape the curse surrounding the toy.

Notable directors such as Zach Cregger, Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), Mike Flanagan, Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, and Osgood Perkins are prominent figures in contemporary horror cinema. While “Final Destination” and “The Monkey” share common themes, they are distinct films, with Osgood Perkins’ “The Monkey,” like his earlier hit “Longlegs,” having made its mark.

Between the two films, “The Monkey” stands out as the best choice for viewing following “Bloodlines”. This isn’t merely due to its detailed character deaths, but because it carries a dark, humorous tone. “Final Destination”, while possessing a certain dark wit, has only hinted at this to a degree. Characters in “Final Destination” often meet their ends through something they once loved, such as the tanning beds in “Final Destination 3”. Or, it may be suggested in an unusual manner. Death itself isn’t inherently amusing, but the way death is portrayed in both “Final Destination” and “The Monkey” suggests a twisted sense of humor that only they appreciate.

1) Final Destination

While Bloodlines may be considered the pinnacle of the series, there are other titles that hold their own in terms of quality. Particularly, the original sequel, Final Destination 2, and the fifth installment stand out as strong contenders. Either of these could make an excellent choice for a double feature alongside the upcoming 2025 film on a movie night.

2000 saw “Final Destination” injecting a fresh dose of adrenaline into the horror genre, following closely on the heels of the iconic success of “Scream.” However, as is often the case with blockbusters, its triumph spawned a wave of imitators attempting to ride its coattails. Some were passable entries in the meta-horror genre, like “Urban Legend,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “Halloween H20: 20 Years Later.” But many more contributed to the over-saturation of the genre during that time, with uninspired sequels to all three and “Valentine” being prime examples. The horror landscape was in need of a revitalization, and introducing Death as the antagonist proved to be just the unexpected twist needed to breathe new life into it.
