7 Most Evil Superman Copycats, Ranked

Superman, the character who essentially launched the superhero world, has always stood for truth and justice, inspiring people for decades. Because he’s such a famous hero, many other companies have created characters very similar to him – with comparable backgrounds, abilities, and outfits. While some of these characters are clearly meant as respectful tributes, most are actually harsh parodies, designed to mock the very ideals Superman represents. Instead of being noble heroes, these copies are often dangerous, unstable characters who have been twisted by their own power and want to control everyone.

The idea of an evil Superman has become very popular recently, often showing a darker, more pessimistic worldview. Other comic book publishers, like Marvel, Image, and BOOM! Studios, have created frightening villains based on this concept. These incredibly powerful characters, similar to Superman, have done terrible things. Here’s a ranking of the most wicked and ruthless Superman copies, based on how evil they are.

7) Alpha One

In Image Comics’ The Mighty, the series’ villain, Alpha One, is obsessed with transforming Earth into a perfect society, no matter the cost. Originally from another planet, he was exiled after proposing genocide as a solution to create a flawless world. Upon arriving on Earth, Alpha One spent years building a public image as a hero. Secretly, however, he began abducting and experimenting on people, hoping to engineer a race of superhumans. These experiments were brutal, resulting in horrific injuries, torture, and countless deaths. Alpha One even orchestrated disasters to gather more subjects, and anyone who threatened to expose his actions was swiftly eliminated.

6) Homelander

Homelander, from the series The Boys, is often considered the most terrifying version of Superman ever created. He’s the result of raising a superpowered being in a laboratory, turning him into a product for a ruthless corporation. As Vought’s most powerful creation, Homelander possesses incredible strength and heat vision, capable of causing immense destruction. He’s a complete psychopath responsible for numerous horrific acts, including assaults, the slaughter of innocent people, letting a plane crash, and even massacring everyone in the White House. Homelander embodies unchecked power and acts solely on his own desires, believing he’s above all consequences.

5) Supershock

Supershock, originally from the Powers comic series, is an incredibly powerful and dangerous being with a massive ego. He’s essentially unstoppable and doesn’t hesitate to harm others. Beyond the typical abilities of a super-strong hero, he can even bend reality to his will. After years of acting as Earth’s main protector, Supershock began to question why he bothered saving people he saw as weak. When another hero was revealed to be a monster, it pushed Supershock over the edge. He started using his powers to kill without restraint, first murdering his fellow heroes, then wiping out entire cities, killing thousands of civilians. He was particularly cruel, once taking a woman into space, letting her suffocate, then bringing her back to life only to repeat the horrific process endlessly.

4) Void

Marvel’s Sentry is a powerful, though flawed, hero – often compared to Superman. However, he has a dark side called the Void, which is essentially pure evil. While the Sentry represents everything good, the Void embodies villainy. This incredibly dangerous being exists only to cause destruction and suffering, and is one of Marvel’s most formidable villains. The Void shares the Sentry’s immense strength, speed, energy blasts, and molecular control. He’s responsible for millions of deaths and has destroyed cities like Manhattan and even Asgard. The Void isn’t just powerful, he’s cruel, famously breaking every bone in the Hulk’s body. At his most powerful, he poses a threat to the entire universe.

3) Plutonian

The protagonist of the BOOM! Studios comic Irredeemable, known as the Plutonian, truly earns his name. He began as a selfless hero, but his incredibly sensitive hearing meant he constantly heard people’s negative opinions of him. Eventually, he reached a breaking point and became a monstrous villain. Fueled by rage, the Plutonian brutally attacked humanity, wiping out cities and countries and killing over 11 million people. His acts of destruction included bombarding a city with meteors, sinking Singapore, and even carving his symbol into the continent of North America. He especially enjoys tormenting his former superhero allies, forcing them to witness the horrific deaths of their loved ones.

2) Hero

I’m a huge fan of the 2000 AD comics, and one of the storylines that really stuck with me is ‘Ten-Seconders.’ It’s set in a future where Earth has been wrecked by these incredibly powerful alien beings called the Gods. The first one to arrive, and their leader, is this guy named Hero. He’s basically powered by the sun, and unbelievably strong – nuclear bombs barely faze him! At first, they pretended to be saviors, but it quickly became clear they had much darker intentions. Hero led them in turning most of the planet into a wasteland. He’s a total tyrant – he even killed the president on live TV and wiped out tons of people just to show everyone who’s boss. Seriously, this guy is so cruel he’ll destroy entire states just because he’s bored!

1) King Hyperion

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve seen a lot of Superman-like characters, but Earth-4023’s Hyperion is truly terrifying. This version didn’t just fight heroes – he systematically killed everyone, superheroes and ordinary people alike. It gets worse: he even took out cosmic entities and gods, including Galactus! The people of his Earth were so desperate to stop him that they triggered a nuclear apocalypse, hoping to take him down with them. It didn’t work, leaving him the sole survivor on a dead planet. But that wasn’t the end of it. He started jumping between universes, and the body count just kept rising. Honestly, no other Superman analogue has ever been this brutal; he’s left more destruction in his wake than anyone else I can think of.
