Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is a hugely influential and iconic series in the world of anime and manga, especially within the Shonen genre. It’s not just exciting, but truly innovative, having inspired many artists and popular shows. While known for its amazing action sequences, Dragon Ball also features a cast of unforgettable characters. When thinking about character growth throughout the entire franchise, Vegeta, the Saiyan Prince, immediately stands out. Initially introduced as a villain in Dragon Ball Z, he evolved into one of the most beloved and dependable heroes.
Watching Vegeta’s journey has always been incredible – from the hardships he’s faced to the person he’s become. He’s had so many unforgettable moments, whether he was playing the villain or the hero. I’ve been thinking about seven of them that really stand out for fans, and I wanted to share them.
7) Vegeta Instilled Fear Among The Z Fighters By Killing Nappa

When Vegeta was a villain, he was incredibly brutal, not only to his enemies but also to those on his own side. He allowed Nappa to fight the Z Fighters, and Nappa was easily defeating them until Goku intervened. Instead of helping Nappa after Goku beat him, Vegeta immediately attacked and finished him off. This showed just how ruthless and heartless Vegeta was, firmly establishing him as the main villain and making him a truly terrifying opponent.
6) Vegeta Nearly Defeats Semi-Perfect Cell

The battle with Cell was both amazing and incredibly frustrating. Vegeta, traditionally not the one to finish off the main villain, actually came very close to winning. After absorbing Android 17, Cell became stronger, and Vegeta nearly defeated him – closer than any of the other Z Fighters had gotten. Unfortunately, Vegeta’s pride led him to make a critical error: he let Cell absorb Android 18, believing it would push him to a new level, a decision that ultimately cost him the fight.
5) Vegeta Humiliated Pui Pui With The Difference in Their Power

Following the battle with Cell, I watched Vegeta dedicate seven years to intense training, determined to reach a new level of power. He was eager for a challenging fight, but when it finally came, he was shocked by the sheer gap in strength between himself and his opponent. It turned out Babidi had sent his three most powerful warriors to prevent Goku and his friends from stopping Majin Buu’s revival. After Goku defeated Yakon, Vegeta stepped up to face Pui Pui, the next obstacle. Pui Pui was confident he’d win, banking on the increased gravity, but it wasn’t enough. Vegeta, who regularly trained in far greater gravity, easily handled the challenge.
4) Vegeta Takes Revenge on Zarbon

Despite being a prominent figure in Frieza’s army, Vegeta wasn’t as strong as some of his subordinates, like Zarbon and the members of the Ginyu Force. When Vegeta turned against Frieza, he initially lost his fight with Zarbon. But Zarbon underestimated the Saiyans’ ability to grow stronger with each battle. Their rematch was a complete surprise, with Vegeta easily defeating his opponent.
3) Vegeta Won His First Fight Against Goku

Long before Goku could transform into a Super Saiyan, the most frightening power-up in the Dragon Ball series was the Great Ape form, which Saiyans achieved under the full moon. In their first battle, Great Ape Vegeta actually defeated Goku, leaving him completely helpless. But Vegeta’s win didn’t last, as Goku eventually won with help from his friends.
2) Super Saiyan Vegeta Destroyed Android 19

After Future Trunks warned them about the Androids, the Z Fighters trained for three years to prepare for battle. Despite their hard work, even the initial Androids, 19 and 20, proved to be incredibly strong – too strong for most of the Z Fighters, except for those who could transform into Super Saiyans. Vegeta pushed himself through intense training and finally achieved the legendary Super Saiyan transformation. He easily defeated Android 19 with his newfound power, but it soon became clear that even more dangerous enemies were on the way.
1) Vegeta’s Final Explosion Was the Ultimate Act of Atonement

Vegeta’s most memorable moment is undoubtedly when he used the Final Explosion, a selfless act that marked his transformation from villain to hero. Realizing that neither he nor the Z Fighters could defeat Majin Buu, Vegeta chose to sacrifice everything – his life force and energy – in one final, powerful blast, hoping to destroy Buu for good. Though his sacrifice wasn’t enough to defeat Buu outright, it was a heroic act that proved his redemption and paved the way for victory.
