I remember when the Avengers first came together! It all started because there was this huge threat, and honestly, at first we thought it was the Hulk! Turns out, he was being manipulated by Loki, Thor’s brother. So Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Ant-Man, and Hulk decided to team up, but Hulk didn’t stick around for long. Then Captain America showed up – thawed out after being frozen! – and took his place. Since then, they’ve fought some seriously powerful villains like Loki, Kang, Thanos, and Ultron, all within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But you know, there are still a bunch of other major Avengers villains from the comics that we haven’t seen show up in the MCU yet, and I’m really hoping they do!
This article explores some of the most formidable enemies the Avengers have faced in the comics – villains who haven’t yet appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
7) Super Adaptoid

Super Adaptoid has appeared in various animated series, including episodes of Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of SMASH. Despite being a formidable Avengers foe, he hasn’t yet been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although opportunities have arisen. He first appeared in Tales of Suspense #82 as an enemy of Captain America, created by the organization known as AIM.
Super Adaptoid had impressive abilities, including copying other powers, changing shape and size, and even healing himself. Though the organization AIM, which created him in the comics, has appeared in a few Marvel movies, Super Adaptoid himself never made an appearance. With so many cosmic villains now appearing in the MCU, it’s likely we’ll never see him.
6) Count Nefaria

Count Nefaria first appeared in Avengers #13, making him one of the superhero team’s original foes. He was a very rich man who funded the creation of incredibly advanced technology for himself and rose to power within the Maggia, a global criminal organization. This activity drew the Avengers’ notice as they worked to dismantle the Maggia.
Although the Avengers haven’t typically dealt with threats like this in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s not outside the scope of other heroes – for example, when Sam Wilson handled problems in Madripoor. Nefaria could easily have been introduced as someone working with the Power Broker (Sharon Carter), but that never happened. He’s incredibly powerful, being immortal with a strong healing ability, and can also drain energy from others to sustain himself.
5) Squadron Supreme

Marvel’s Squadron Supreme was created as a counterpart to DC’s Justice League – Hyperion was similar to Superman, Nighthawk to Batman, and so on. Interestingly, both the comics and subsequent cartoons often portrayed these characters as villains or opponents of the Avengers. At one point, Agent Coulson even reimagined Earth, working with Mephisto to make the Squadron Supreme the planet’s heroes and effectively erasing the Avengers from existence.
Despite their potential, the Supreme team hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s unlikely they ever will. The Avengers members who could have challenged them – like Captain America and Iron Man – are no longer around, and even Thor’s role is diminishing. They would have been formidable opponents for the Avengers, but unfortunately, that opportunity never materialized.
4) The Chaos King

Amatsu-Mikaboshi is a god from Japanese mythology featured in Marvel Comics, often called the Chaos King. He’s a powerful being of evil and chaos who once ruled the emptiness before the universe was created. After being exiled for a very long time, he eventually broke free, conquered Hell by defeating its most powerful inhabitants, and then fought the Avengers and Earth’s heroes who attempted to stop him.
This character had the potential to be a fantastic Avengers enemy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, considering how similar villains like Malekith were handled in past films, it’s perhaps a good thing this character never made an appearance.
3) Molecule Man

Molecule Man began as an enemy of the Fantastic Four, but he eventually appeared in Avengers comics too. He’s become one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe, far surpassing most other characters. However, bringing Owen Reece (Molecule Man) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be tricky, as his powers are so immense they’d need to be handled very carefully.
Molecule Man is incredibly powerful, so he usually avoids direct conflict, as seen when he assisted the Beyonder and Doctor Doom in different Secret Wars storylines. While a version of the character appeared in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, that story isn’t connected to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe and wasn’t a very good portrayal.
2) Chthon

Although the powerful being known as Chthon exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he hasn’t made a physical appearance yet. We’ve only seen a statue dedicated to him, as Chthon is the creator of the Darkhold – the magical book that influenced Wanda Maximoff’s transformation into a villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the Marvel comics, however, Chthon is a recurring villain who has repeatedly driven the Scarlet Witch to evil acts.
He first showed up in a comic book in Avengers #186 back in 1979, taking control of Wanda and turning her against her teammates. He’s also been a recurring villain, often causing trouble for the Avengers. However, since Wanda is already becoming a villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no need to actually feature Chthon beyond simply mentioning his name as the original author of the Darkhold.
1) Korvac

Korvac is one of the Avengers’ most formidable enemies. Their first encounter, detailed in The Korvac Saga, ended with the complete annihilation of the team. Fortunately, he was ultimately redeemed by his love for his wife, who helped him realize his mistakes. He restored the Avengers and departed, but he’s since reappeared on multiple occasions, remaining a powerful and deeply unethical threat.
Korvac is a formidable Avengers villain who hasn’t yet made an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but would fit in seamlessly. What makes him compelling is his goal: to create a perfect, peaceful world, even if it means taking away everyone’s freedom. This would force the Avengers to confront the ethics of his vision. Korvac’s power surpasses even Thanos’, and his story offers a fascinating level of complexity.
