7 Most Powerful Forbidden Jutsu in Naruto Ranked

Watching the fights in Naruto, it’s clear the power system is really complex. Most characters build their own fighting style around fundamental techniques called jutsu. You see a lot of ninjutsu and taijutsu, those are the most common, but genjutsu is rarer, used by only a few. What’s interesting is that beyond these standard techniques, there are incredibly powerful moves considered forbidden – kinjutsu. These are banned because they’re risky for the user and can cause a lot of damage. Generally, ninjas avoid them, but when pushed to the limit, they’ll use anything they can to survive, even these dangerous techniques.

Despite being considered off-limits, ninjas rarely get punished for using these techniques. Naruto’s famous Shadow Clone Jutsu, for example, is actually considered forbidden, but he uses it all the time. Some forbidden jutsu are far more dangerous than others – while Shadow Clone is relatively safe, some can even be fatal or cause other harmful side effects. Out of all the forbidden techniques shown in the series, here are seven of the most powerful.

7) Strength Of A Hundred Seal

This powerful, ancient technique demands incredible chakra control, something only a handful of ninjas can master, even after extensive training. It allows the user to store a large amount of chakra in a single spot, like the forehead, and then release it to dramatically boost their abilities. This also greatly enhances their healing skills. In the series, only Tsunade and her student Sakura have demonstrated complete mastery of this technique.

6) Reaper Death Seal

The Uzumaki Clan created this dangerous and secret sealing technique, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two Hokages, Minato and Hiruzen. Very few people outside the clan are even aware it exists. It works by extracting someone’s soul and trapping it within the soul of a summoned Shinigami. However, it’s a risky process, as it also traps the user’s own soul along with their target.

5) Izanagi

Izanagi is a powerful, forbidden technique from the Uchiha clan. It’s a type of illusion that only those with the Sharingan can use. It traps the target in a repeating loop, essentially forcing them to accept what’s happening if they want to break free. While using Izanagi costs the user one of their eyes, it became widespread within the clan during a time of conflict.

4) Izanami

Similar to the technique Izanagi, Izanami is a powerful, yet costly, Uchiha Clan ability that requires the sacrifice of an eye. It’s a Genjutsu that lets the user alter reality, effectively dodging fatal blows and even death itself. Izanami was originally created as a countermeasure to Izanagi and to punish those who were abusing its power, something that had become increasingly frequent.

3) The Eight Inner Gates Formation

This incredibly dangerous technique temporarily removes all limits on a user’s energy, giving them unbelievable speed and strength. But it severely damages the body and always results in death. Might Guy used it during the Fourth Great Shinobi War, allowing him to fight Madara Uchiha on equal footing. He only survived because Naruto arrived just in time with the power of the Sage of the Six Paths to save him.

2) Summoning Jutsu: Reanimation

This incredibly dangerous and forbidden technique involves manipulating the spirits of the deceased, effectively turning them into controllable puppets. It works by linking the soul of a dead person to a living host, briefly recreating them as they were at the time of their death. Originally created by the Second Hokage, it was quickly outlawed due to its risky and unsettling nature.

1) Rinne Tensei

Rinne Tensei is a powerful, unique ability only usable by those who possess the Rinnegan. Unlike the Impure World Reanimation, which temporarily revives the dead with restrictions, Rinne Tensei can bring back an unlimited number of people, but requires the user to sacrifice their own life. Nagato Uzumaki demonstrated this ability when he attacked the Leaf Village; despite the many casualties, he used his vast chakra to revive everyone before dying.
