Hunter x Hunter is an adventure story about a world where Hunters are highly skilled, licensed professionals who take on dangerous jobs that regular people can’t handle. These jobs can range from exploring undiscovered lands and capturing criminals, to protecting important people, studying rare animals, and finding lost treasures. A key element of the series is Nen, a complex system of aura control that’s central to the story. While anyone can learn the basics of Nen with training, each user also develops unique abilities based on their personality and creativity.
A key feature of Nen is that it actually benefits from limitations. If a character willingly puts restrictions or takes risks on their own powers, those powers can become significantly stronger. The anime is praised for taking the time to thoroughly explain its power system and focusing on strategic battles, which is a big reason why many fans consider it a particularly well-written action series.
7. Morel Mackernasey

Morel is a highly experienced Hunter known for staying calm under pressure. He’s not just strong – he’s incredibly intelligent and a master strategist, combining powerful Nen abilities with clever tactics. His signature move, Deep Purple, creates disorienting smoke clones that let him control the battlefield and easily outmaneuver his opponents, making him a reliable and formidable fighter.
Morel is a remarkably adaptable fighter. During the battle against the Chimera Ants, he survived encounters with incredibly powerful creatures not through brute force, but by being clever and resourceful. While he doesn’t have the overwhelming power of some top Hunters, his excellent decision-making, endurance, and strategic mind make him a vital member of the Hunter Association’s strongest fighters.
6. Ging Freecss

Ging is one of the most mysterious and powerful Hunters, with an incredible command of Nen. Considered a top five Nen user worldwide by Chairman Netero, he can perfectly copy any Nen technique he sees. Combined with his brilliant mind and unpredictable nature, this makes him a formidable opponent, even when he’s holding back.
Ging isn’t just a powerful fighter; he’s also a gifted explorer, a skilled relic hunter, and a natural leader within the Hunter Association. However, he’s an enigmatic character because he prioritizes adventure over recognition and keeps his personal connections at a distance, always managing to stay one step ahead of those who try to figure him out.
5. Silva Zoldyck

Silva Zoldyck, the head of the Zoldyck family, is incredibly powerful and comes from a strong lineage. He’s far stronger and faster than most people, easily defeating dangerous opponents like Chimera Ants and other assassins. He’s a master of Nen, allowing him to deliver extremely focused and damaging attacks, and his skill in hand-to-hand combat is the result of years of dedicated training.
Silva leads the world’s most dangerous group of assassins, and has overcome obstacles that would destroy almost anyone. His power isn’t based on a good name – it’s based on actual skill and experience. He usually doesn’t display his full strength, but even a glimpse of what he’s capable of shows how difficult it would be to defeat him in a serious fight.
4. Chrollo Lucilfer

The leader of the Phantom Troupe is incredibly dangerous because of his book, Skill Hunter. This book lets him steal the Nen abilities of others and use them for himself. With each new ability he takes, he becomes more adaptable in a fight, making him hard to predict and extremely difficult to defeat. He’s also a brilliant strategist, able to change his tactics on the fly during intense battles.
Chrollo’s ability to lead powerful and dangerous members like Hisoka and Feitan demonstrates his strong charisma and commanding presence. He’s a master strategist, always thinking steps ahead and skillfully controlling events while remaining calm. Though not relying on brute strength, Chrollo is a remarkably well-rounded and formidable fighter, thanks to his intelligence, mastery of Nen, and ability to adjust to any situation – making him one of the most dangerous opponents in the Hunter world.
3. Hisoka Morow

I’ve always seen Hisoka as completely consumed by the thrill of fighting. Every time he steps into a battle, it feels like he’s turning it into a strange performance just to show off his skills. And his Nen ability, Bungee Gum – it’s like rubber and gum combined – makes fights incredibly unpredictable and chaotic. It’s not about strength, it’s about how creatively you can use it. Honestly, you never really know what he’s going to do next, and by the time you figure it out, it’s usually too late.
Despite his playful and charismatic nature, Hisoka is incredibly ruthless. He actively seeks out challenging and dangerous opponents, even risking his own life just for the excitement of a fight. This combination of charm and terrifying power makes him a paradox. His incredible endurance, strategic thinking, and ability to deceive ensure he’s always a formidable opponent, no matter who he faces. He thrives on the thrill of battle and carefully analyzes his enemies, making him a constant top-level threat.
2. Isaac Netero

Netero was once considered the most powerful Nen user in the world, a title earned through centuries of dedicated training and spiritual development. His signature technique, the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, was incredibly fast and strong, exceeding the limits of ordinary human ability. Even as an elderly man, Netero’s reflexes were astonishing, enabling him to fight the incredibly powerful Meruem as an equal.
What struck me most about Netero wasn’t just his power, but how he thought about strength. He didn’t care about winning or losing; he wanted to see how close someone could get to true understanding through a fight. Watching him battle Meruem, I realized he was prepared to give up everything for what he believed in. He was a unique Hunter – incredibly compassionate, yet capable of immense destruction, and he balanced those two sides perfectly. That’s why his name alone carries so much weight and respect; he truly was a legend.
1. Meruem

Even though Meruem wasn’t an officially recognized Hunter, he was far more powerful than anyone else in the world of Hunter x Hunter. As the King of the Chimera Ants, his strength and Nen abilities were beyond human limits. He was incredibly intelligent, learning new skills almost instantly, and his aura was vastly stronger than even the most experienced Hunters combined.
Meruem began as a terrifying predator, but he transformed into a wise and compassionate leader, proving he was more than just a monster. He questioned what it truly meant to be human, using both incredible power and a growing understanding of others. Ultimately, even humanity’s strongest warrior, Netero, could only overcome him with a desperate, self-sacrificing act.
