7 Most Powerful Super Soldiers In The MCU (Who Aren’t Captain America)

Captain America is one of the most popular heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His origin story is famous: Steve Rogers, a man with exceptional courage and strong morals, was chosen to receive an experimental serum that turned him into the ultimate soldier. The MCU films have portrayed Captain America as the ideal super-soldier, a benchmark others haven’t quite reached. Throughout the franchise, we’ve seen various attempts to duplicate the serum that gave him his powers, but none have been very successful.

The super soldier serum, famous for creating Captain America, also led to the development of many other interesting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While recreating the serum’s effects on Steve Rogers is rarely successful, several other super soldiers have emerged. Some gained powers similar to Captain America’s, while others were changed in drastically different ways. These characters, all enhanced by various super soldier serums, vary greatly in their abilities and overall power levels.

7) John Walker

John Walker is arguably the most straightforward super soldier replacement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was directly introduced as Steve Rogers’ successor as Captain America and, thanks to the super soldier serum, possessed similar powers. While a strong and capable fighter, Walker’s flaws quickly became apparent, preventing him from truly embodying the heroic qualities of the original Captain America.

6) Red Skull

Red Skull is unique in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the only super soldier created before Captain America. He was the very first person to receive the super-soldier serum from Dr. Abraham Erskine, which turned him into the red-skinned villain we know. While Erskine considered him a flawed result, the serum enhanced Schmidt just like it did Rogers, but also amplified his already existing evil tendencies. Despite being an underutilized character, Red Skull remains one of the most powerful super soldiers in the MCU.

5) Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier

Besides Captain America, Bucky Barnes is arguably the most famous and popular character to receive the super-soldier serum in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like Steve Rogers, Bucky gained incredible abilities, but his story took a tragic turn when Hydra experimented on him and turned him into a brainwashed assassin for years. After finally regaining control of his mind, Bucky became a skilled and admired hero, utilizing both the serum’s power and a vibranium prosthetic arm. Many of his most memorable moments highlight his strength as a key super-soldier in the MCU.

4) Wolverine

Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe not only excited fans but also cemented his place as one of the franchise’s strongest heroes. Wolverine was already known for his impressive abilities – his healing and bone claws – but the enhancements he received during the Weapon X program made him even more powerful. Covering his skeleton and claws with adamantium created an incredibly durable character, making Wolverine one of the toughest in the MCU, despite not being a typical super soldier.

3) Abomination

Recreating Erskine’s super soldier serum wasn’t always successful. One attempt, using gamma radiation, created a dangerous new type of super soldier with wildly unpredictable effects. This process transformed Emil Blonsky, a highly skilled soldier, into the Abomination – a massive, furious being similar to the Hulk. Combining incredible size and strength with Blonsky’s military expertise, the Abomination is one of the most powerful results of the MCU’s efforts to replicate the original serum.

2) Hulk

The Hulk has been a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its start. Bruce Banner became the Hulk after exposure to gamma radiation, which was originally an effort to replicate the super-soldier serum. While the experiment didn’t go as planned, it did create one of the MCU’s strongest and most durable characters.

1) Sentry

Sentry is a prime example in the MCU of how recreating Dr. Erskine’s super-soldier serum could be both incredibly powerful and dangerously unstable. The serum transformed Robert Reynolds into a being with immense power, but it also amplified his inner darkness, manifesting as his alter-ego, the Void. With a wide range of abilities that make him nearly invincible, Sentry is arguably the most powerful super-soldier the MCU has seen.
