7 Most Powerful Superheroes Batman has Defeated

Batman is famous for having the most recognizable group of villains in DC Comics, constantly facing threats from characters like the Joker and Ra’s al Ghul in Gotham City. But while he’s known for fighting criminals, Batman has also clashed with other heroes on several occasions. This makes sense, considering his forceful personality and the numerous backup plans he’s created to deal with rogue or compromised superheroes. Remarkably, even without superpowers, Batman often wins these fights. Through careful preparation and sheer determination, the Dark Knight has overcome some of the most powerful heroes in both regular storylines and special team-up events.

It’s common in superhero comics to see heroes clash, and Batman is frequently involved. His strict moral code often leads to conflicts with heroes he’d normally consider friends or allies. Here’s a look at some of the most powerful superheroes Batman has defeated.

7) Captain America

I remember when Batman fought Captain America during that DC vs Marvel event! Even though Cap was way stronger and faster because of the Super Soldier Serum, Batman really held his own. It was an incredible fight, lasting for hours, and it eventually led them down into the sewers. Things got crazy when a water pipe burst, giving Batman the chance to knock Cap out with a Batarang. But here’s the thing – even after doing that, Batman didn’t leave him! He actually dove into the water to save Captain America from drowning. It showed a lot of character, even in the middle of a huge battle.

6) Aquaman

I’m a huge Justice League fan, and Aquaman is definitely one of the strongest members – he rules the ocean and is as powerful as Wonder Woman! But I was shocked to learn that Batman could actually beat him without even using any of his cool gadgets. Apparently, in a story called “Reign of the Joker,” the Joker attacked Atlantis, and Aquaman went to Batman for help. When Batman refused, Aquaman got really angry and tried to fight him. But Batman, using just his martial arts skills, totally took him down! He even brought Aquaman to his knees. It turned out Batman did it on purpose – he wanted to test Aquaman and figure out the best way to help him defeat the Joker. It was a clever move, honestly.

5) Green Lantern (Guy Gardner)

Guy Gardner is a remarkably powerful Green Lantern, capable of incredible feats like obliterating entire alien fleets. However, he’s equally famous for being boastful and reckless, often irritating his fellow heroes, particularly Batman. In the Justice League International comic series, Batman finally reaches his breaking point with Guy’s behavior. After Guy challenges Batman’s authority and attempts to attack him, Batman quickly knocks him unconscious with a single punch. This embarrassing defeat has become a running joke for the Justice League and fans alike, and Guy never lives it down.

4) Hulk

Back in 1976, DC Comics and Marvel Comics teamed up for a special crossover: Batman vs. The Incredible Hulk. When the Hulk starts destroying things, Batman tries to stop him. Knowing he can’t beat the Hulk with strength alone, Batman uses his gadgets and agility. He avoids the Hulk’s attacks while releasing knockout gas. The Hulk quickly realizes what Batman is doing and tries to hold his breath. In a surprisingly silly move, Batman kicks the Hulk in the stomach, forcing him to inhale the gas and finally knocking him out.

3) Superman

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the dynamic between Superman and Batman. They’re such opposites, but their rivalry and friendship is legendary – it goes all the way back to 1941! It’s incredible, because even though Superman is unbelievably powerful – capable of destroying entire galaxies – Batman often wins when they clash. The most famous example, for me, is definitely from The Dark Knight Returns. In that story, the government sends Superman to take down Batman, and Bruce Wayne, being the genius he is, prepares for the fight of his life. He uses everything he’s got – sonic weapons, electricity, even Kryptonite gas – and a seriously impressive armored suit to level the playing field. And it works! We actually see Superman beaten and bruised, and it’s one of the most shocking and memorable defeats for the Man of Steel.

2) Justice League

Batman is well-known for always having backup plans, especially for stopping the Justice League if they ever became a threat. These plans proved crucial in the story “Batman: Endgame,” when the Joker poisoned Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Aquaman, taking control of their minds. To withstand attacks from these incredibly powerful, mind-controlled heroes, Batman used a special suit called the Justice Buster, which had a way to counter each League member’s powers. With the suit, Batman tripped the Flash with a slippery substance, removed the water from Aquaman’s body, and put Wonder Woman into a hypnotic state. Even after Superman ripped him out of the armor, Batman managed to defeat him by shoving Kryptonite gum in his face.

1) Spectre

The Spectre is a tremendously powerful being, often seen as the physical representation of divine anger, and one of the most powerful in the entire multiverse. Considering his reality-bending abilities, it seems impossible that Batman could ever win a fight against him. But Batman, never one to back down from a challenge, confronts the Spectre when he begins punishing criminals in Gotham in Tales of the Unexpected #4. In a shocking move, Batman actually attacks the all-powerful angel, landing a solid kick to the face. Surprisingly, it hurts! When the Spectre threatens Batman in response, the Dark Knight calmly demands he leave Gotham, and the Spectre actually complies – because, well, he’s Batman.
